Rickey Medlocke has spoken out in favor of removing Saddam Hussein from power, and now he's urging people who share his feelings to speak out with him. Medlocke, lead guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd and a founding member of Blackfoot, has issued this statement about Hussein.
"The time has come for us to speak up in support of our government and our troops," Medlocke said in the statement. "The very freedom we cherish, the freedom that allows us to disagree and to speak up about it, is the sort of freedom that Saddam Hussein has denied his own people. He has killed thousands of Iraqis simply for voicing disagreement with the way he is running their country and treating them."
Medlocke added, "If history has taught us anything, it is that when the powers of the free world do not step up and fight against the evil of men like this, millions of innocent lives are lost, and it will happen again this time if we continue to sit back and wait, knowingly allowing Hussein and other terrorists to continue their campaign of hatred and murder. So far, the only message that has been broadcast to Americans, to our allies, and to our enemies is one of peace at all costs. Those of us who do not agree with pacifism have a responsibility to speak up and be heard just as loud."
In addition to his musical career, Medlocke is on the lookout for some acting roles, and he's begun work on a book about his life and career.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's next studio album, Vicious Cycle, is expected in late June. Originally due May 6, it was pushed back after Skynyrd founder Gary Rossington's recent quintuple-bypass surgery.
This group doesn't "look" neocon to me.
He'll never get them now.
I wonder what the success rate at finding 'acting roles' is for someone who supports the admin - check with Ron Silver or Mel Gibson first:)
Wait until the Dixie Chicks hear about this.
Moon mon, you too fast wit dem postins.:)
I don't know, these are the same guys who wrote "Saturday Night Special," the most anti-gun song I ever heard.

I still like "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe" most of all.
Damn I knew these boys were raised right!
Good on him for speaking out on the side of reality.
At least there is one musician who isn't brain dead.

The Bush-Cheney ticket is not without its supporters, some of them Confederate flag-waving Southern rockers. Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Dickey Betts and Kid Rock all played the Republican National Convention, indicating that Kerry could have a rough ride in the South.
"There are Democrats in Lynyrd Skynyrd, too," says singer Johnny Van Zant. "Not everyone's Republican. But I think everyone wants to do something for Bush, whether they're Republican or not. For me personally, I think he's had the hardest job of anyone who's ever been the president of the United States, 'cause none of them faced what the hell he faced -- except maybe Lincoln, with the country being divided itself."

Well stated! Good man.
Okay, Dems, want to battle the war again?
We can do that. Didn't help you in '02 and '04, but maybe the third time will be the charm in finally knocking sense into your heads.
BTW, don't even think for a moment you are going to get a dime of credit for victory. If you're thinking the Dec vote will be successful, leading to some troops coming home, you may be correct. If you're thinking your strategized calls to capitalize on it as being a result of your pressure will escape unchallenged? You are wrong.
Two feets they come a creepin
Like a black cat do
And two bodies are lyin naked
Creeper think he got nothin to lose
So he creeps into this house, yeah
And unlocks the door
And while a man reaching for his trousers
Shoots him full of .38 holes
Its a saturday night special
Got a barrel thats blue and cold
Aint no good for nothin
But put a man six feet in a hole
Big jims been drinkin whiskey
And playing poker on a losin night
Pretty soon, big jim starts a thinkin
Somebody been cheatin and lyin
So big jim commences to fightin
I wouldnt tell you no lie
And big jim done grab his pistol
Shot his friend right between the eyes
Hand guns are made for killin
Aint no good for nothin else
And if you like your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why dont we dump em people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me
Chayayayayge!
At least FR is consistent when singers/entertainers open their mouths. /sarcasm
No "Shut up and sing" serenades tonight?
