More US states are beginning to lift lockdown orders even as US leaders say social distancing guidelines will be necessary throughout the summer.

But governors warn that life will not quickly return to normal, and that restrictions will remain in some places to keep the virus from resurging.

On Friday, the US saw its largest single-day spike in cases.

But the infection rate has dropped significantly in several hotspots, including New York, the US epicentre.

Skipping to the part where they finally get to content that matches the headline:

Georgia, Oklahoma, Alaska and South Carolina have already allowed some businesses to reopen. They and other states have issued plans that call for more rules to be relaxed in the coming week.

Colorado's Democratic Governor Jared Polis has said kerb-side retail pickup can begin on Monday, with hair salons, barbershop and tattoo parlours allowed to reopen on Friday.

Tennessee will allow restaurants to reopen on Monday, the same day that Mississippi's mandatory lockdown order expires.

Montana's governor has allowed churches to reopen starting on Sunday, with social distancing measures still required. Restaurants and schools will be allowed to reopen on 7 May.

Eight states led by Republican governors - Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming - never issued mandatory orders to stay at home.

If it seems too bad to be true, then it probably isn’t.

I think things will get back to normal sooner than we expect.

If the threat continues to diminish, and the weather gets good, and the media are as sick and tired of talking about this as people are of hearing about it, this will fade into the background quickly and will become a bad dream.

I just hope this happens quickly enough for people to recover their dreams....and may those mourning losses be busied with life and receive comfort.

Thanks for that - besides the death & illness counts, the other human costs of this have hardly made the news.

Loved ones not hugged, dearly departed not mourned, milestones not celebrated, laughter and tears not shared.

I also want the damn masks eliminated. They dehumanize us all, and turn us into Burka wearing drones.

Maryland is not even close to it.

Our rino governor is not only squishing together the totals from DE and NoVa, he’s “coordinating” our lockdown with governors Wolf [PA] and Northram {VA]

He is a hater of Trump and inflating the numbers trying to get fed money.

We are SO screwed.

Tattoo parlors. Oh yeah. That’s really important.

Why can’t most US restaurants move half their tables outside? There are places that are hot like Phoenix where even shopping centers have misters to cool thing, in really humid places couldn’t they set up fans or something?

A dear biker friend passed last week.

This great and accomplished man, known to all the congress/senate critters by name, for his work on MD motorcycle laws and issues, did not receive the epic, thousands of bikes funeral procession he WOULD have gotten.

Instead, people drove by the funeral home for a “viewing”, not allowed to slow down or stop.

This is unforgivable.

Call them what they are.

Muzzles.

They symbolize free speech gone.

I've heard from friends in the boondocks that the local dives are the closest places to get a six-pack. Some of them have set up picnic tables around the joint, so your idea is already in operation :)

Can’t figure why that one keeps popping up in the news.

I second the motion. I can’t stand wearing them into the market. I overheard a cashier complaining about having to wear a mask all day. She said it makes her dizzy. Probably the carbon dioxide. Then you have the fashionistas or I like to the term maskanistas. They obviously like wearing their custom fashionable masks. Probably hiding their bad teeth.

Maybe tattoo “parlors” will get the government contracts when they want to make everyone take the Mark on their forehead or hand.

There’s big money at stake, so unfortunately her story is plausible.

Good, but even city restaurants could do that, maybe not New York, but even there landlords of big buildings that house restaurants could allow parts of their lobbys
