Anthony Fauci said Wednesday that a waiver for COVID-19 patent protections should not be off the table, while also pointing to other possible options to increase access to vaccines in lower-income countries.
"I think it's certainly an option that we should not take off the table," Fauci, the government's top infectious diseases expert, told The Hill's Steve Clemons.
"I believe we have a moral obligation, Steve, to make sure that the rest of the world does not suffer and die, as it were, from something that we can help them with and help to prevent," he added.

NIH owns the the patent to the “stabilized spike protein” and has adopted a non-exclusive licensing approach.

This is not the same as Moderna’s vaccine platform patent and Bill Gates is not a major shareholder in Moderna.
And this is exactly what the government should be doing with government owned patents.
That’s not a waiver. A waiver is an exemption from an obligation. This is a usurpation of a company’s right to the fruits of its labor.
Words have meanings, not whatever meaning someone gives them.

Moderna reported a similar spread — five out of 15,000 in the vaccine group versus 90 out of 15,000 in the placebo group.
When one does the math, the Pfizer clinical trial numbers showed: “The risk reduction in absolute terms [was] only 0.7%, from an already very low risk of 0.74%.
The difference is .04% increase in covid risk ... with NO RISK from vaccine.
The only people who would surrender patent rights are communists and Marxists.

It’s not just this particular vaccine. It’s the process to make many more vaccines for other diseases in a similar way. That’s their future that would be taken away.
Perhaps I said it wrong or incompletely. Big pharma has nothing to lose and everything to gain by keeping the patents that our tax dollars paid them to develope while getting immunity from the harm they might cause.
