He was a hoot on WKRP. One of the great sitcoms.
@dfwgator
“The phone cops.”
Rest in peace.
Say what you want about the 1970s, the decade did produce some of the greatest television shows and movies of all time.
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.
Every year at Thanksgiving I have to watch that episode of WKRP, it’ funny no matter how many times you watch it.
Didn’t he say the line..
“I thought turkeys could fly.”
RIP...
And, BOOGER!!!

WKRP (the fictional station’s call letters were a pun on “W-crap”),
“Hesseman starred in all 90 episodes of “WKRP in Cincinnati,”...”
I saw him on MeTV last year or so... he didn’t look good then.
Best WKRP scene: When Mr Carlson went into studio while Johnny Fever was playing Pink Floyd.
First ep:
He talked about being fired after saying Booger on air. “Next thing I know, I’m hosting a gardening show in Amarillo. But I never thought I’d wind up at WKRP in Pitt—Cincinnati?”
“Uh huh.”
“THIS is rock bottom!”
Loved the line, “WKRP, more music and Les Nessman!”
RIP. He was also on the last two seasons or so of “One Day At A Time” and his character married Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin).
BOOGER!!
Don’t forget “Head of the Class” also.
Yup. As god is my witness i thought turkeys could fly!
RIP Howard, loved that show.
RIP Dr. johnny Fever.
I don’t think CBS knew quite what to do with WKRP. It was off beat and not the traditional sit-com. CBS was risk averse and didn’t like the weird or different (see Smother’s Brothers). WKRP always did pretty well in the ratings. CBS cancelled WKRP in the Spring, and the summer re-runs of WKRP that followed were ranked in the Nielsen top 10 if I’m remembering correctly.
RIP Dr. Johnny Fever.
