Fiery truck crash in Philadelphia closes stretch of I-95, possibly for months.

Interstate 95, the main roadway between the East Coast's two largest cities, New York City and Philadelphia, will be closed for months after a tanker fire caused a section to collapse, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Sunday.

An elevated section of northbound lanes in northeast Philadelphia collapsed, trapping the tanker truck and whoever was inside beneath 500 tons of concrete, steel and rubble, about 6:20 a.m., Shapiro said at a news conference.

He called the scene “a remarkably devastating site.”

Corresponding elevated southbound lanes were found to lack structural integrity, prompting closure of the entire freeway, he said.

No deaths or injuries were reported, but first responders had yet to get to the tanker truck or any possible occupants, officials said. The fire was still smoldering but otherwise under control, they said.

So, here are we, nearly 16 hours past this disaster, and we don't know who the driver was? Who owns that trucking line? Why was an oil tanker traveling underneath I-95? Does anyone REALLY think if the driver was named Muhamed al-Khanduhar, that we'd ever hear about it. If it was, it'd lead to "Pothole" Pete lifting a finger for the first time in office, to oversee the cover-up.

No problem. I’m sure another trillion dollar infrastructure bill will buff that right out.

It’s hard to believe that Philadelphia needs terrorists to make a mess or have a disaster.

30 years ago I did a daily commute from south Jersey to northeast Philly up I-95.

It was almost interesting watching the shifting wreckage
of crashed vehicles on the shoulder as I passed every day.

Of course it was less 'fun' when I would caught in a traffic tie-up
because of 'fresh' wreckage having to be moved, or removed,
or of emergency vehicles doing their thing...

Closed for months? Only because government is going to “fix” it.

I-95 through Philadelphia is not the main north south route on the east coast. Most of the traffic takes the New Jersey Turnpike or I-295 across the Delaware Memorial Bridge. If you are a through traveler either North or South, I-95 through Philadelphia is actually out of the way.

“months?”

The first thing we need is a blue-ribbon study commission.

Then we are going to need a study.

Atlanta. 2017. Interstate 85 bridge collapse.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_85_bridge_collapse

Homeless jerks with a campfire ignited many, many spools of fiber optic conduit stored under an elevated section of I-85 a little north of Midtown Atlanta, between the I-75 split and GA 400. Destroyed a section of the elevated highway, some of the supports.

Government got a contractor on board to replace who had huge incentives for a fast replacement, then got out of the way other than ensuring quality of construction. 43 days after the event, I-85 reopened.

But how could that happen? The bridge uses steel girders. Didn’t we have metallurgical expert Rosie O’Donnell tell us that fire can’t melt steel ?

Why was an oil tanker traveling underneath I-95?

Why was an oil tanker stopped underneath the I-95 bridges? Is that report of a dashcam video really true?

I am not a great believer in "accidents" and "coincidences" these days.

Apparently it’s part of a massive construction project and would have been torn down and replaced during the project.

Don’t worry, local government and public sector unions will have that stretch of road open again in 3 years.

And it will only cost $2 billion
