Threads, the new “Twitter killer” app rolled out by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, has surpassed 100 million users in less than a week while Elon Musk’s micro-blogging site has seen traffic “tanking,” according to a tech executive.
The initial burst of success for Threads has fueled a war of words between Musk and Zuckerberg.
The Twitter boss referred to his tech rival as a “cuck” and challenged him to a “d–k measuring contest” over the weekend.
Not only have users been signing up to Threads through their Instagram accounts, but they have also been posting prolifically.
Since the system went online Wednesday, Threads users have written more than 95 million posts and clicked “like” on 190 million posts, according to The Verge.
While Threads has gained momentum in its first few days of operation, Twitter’s traffic has reportedly been “tanking,” according to the CEO of cybersecurity firm Cloudfare.
Matthew Prince, the company CEO, posted a graph to both his Twitter and Threads accounts on Sunday showing the steep decline in traffic.
Prince’s data dovetails with figures released by Similarweb, the web analytics company which said that web traffic to Twitter was down by 5% over the course of the first 48 hours during which Threads went online.
According to Similarweb, Twitter’s web traffic is down 11% compared to the same period last year.

True or false. I don’t know. This is posted for your FReeper evaluation.
Bots
It's almost like he's letting Twitter wilt on the vine.
Why is this surprising? In other news, “Traffic to the only restaurant in town declines after competitor opens”.
Basically, its the Government’s website.
It’s been reported in a few places that Threads is operating with the same “community standards” that Facebook/Instagram have implemented. Once that gets around, that people CAN’T post without fear, Threads is going to lose some users.
While threads may prove itself to be a Twitter alternative, I do not believe it grew so quickly organically. Liberals either signed up just to spite Elon Musk and/or they are using bots.
Facebook and Instagram management could easily and instantly decide that...
all the members of those two sites, will get automatic and instant membership into “Threads’. Then, Twitter will become a midget.
And nothing would surprise me. Now that Zuck has invested his BIG bucks...maybe Musk will just dump twitter....and do what he does best...like SpaceX, Tesla
Musk is creative...Zuck is yuck.
Happy to avoid it. Just another echo chamber.
Bots, bots, and more fake accounts. AI-produced FAKE subscribers to make YOU think you're missing out by not joining the masses.
It being META/Zuckerburg after all, there are many people/sites/corporations/advertisers who will automatically sign up - especially to grab screen names, try and get “pole position,” test out the site, etc...
Twitter has sunk back into it’s old ways again. The left can make outright threats while conservatives are banned for hurting feelings.
It isn’t the numbers that is important but the quality of actual content. Meta is infested with bots to artificially up their rank. They are only cheating g themselves by doing do. Twitter is still a far freer platform tha meta any day of the week. Who cares how many bots are counted at meta- meta still sucks and zlways will because it is a hellhole filled with liberal vipers
Why only 100 million? Go big if you're gonna lie. 300 billion and 60,000 aliens from several galaxies.
Might be in the same Category as carlson needs fox more than fox needs carlson which we all know is BS.
You hire a DC swamp demon ex CIA as your CEO and you get stupid prizes. He should’ve never touched Twitter and blocked outside people from reading posts. For being a wealthy man he sure is stupid!….you never hire anyone from the DC swamp who hate your guts and who have marching orders to destroy you. He just hired himself a venomous snake who has just taken a chunk of his ass. You never invite a poisonous snake into your house. …. NEVERRRRR!
