ONWARD CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus going on before; Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe; Forward into battle see His banners go. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus going on before. At the sign of triumph Satan's host doth flee; On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory. Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise; Brothers lift your voices proud your anthems raise. Like a mighty army moves the church of God; Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod; We are not divided, all one body we, One in hope and doctrine, one in charity. What the saints established that I hold for true; What the saints believed, that I believe too. Long as earth endureth, men the faith will hold; Kingdoms, nations, empires, in destruction rolled. Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane, But the church of Jesus constant will remain; Gates of hell can never gainst that church prevail; We have Christ's own promise, and that cannot fail. Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng, Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song; Glory, laud, and honour unto Christ the King; This through countless ages men and angels sing. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war, With the cross of Jesus going on before.

"Onward, Christian Soldiers” was written in 1865 with no intention of ever being published, especially in adult hymn books. Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould, its author, was at that time the curate of a parish in Yorkshire county in the north of England. "It was written in great haste, and I am afraid some of the rhymes are faulty. Certainly nothing has surprised me more than its great popularity." In 1871 Arthur Sullivan wrote the tune “St. Gertrude” for the hymn, which further popularized the hymn and has ever since been its standard melody.

Good evening, Songcraft, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Thanks for the beautiful hymn. I can’t sing worth a darn, but since I’m the only one here I can sing as loud as I want...same with Onward, Christian Soldiers. And repeat as many times as I want. LOL!

Looking at that sky, I gather it got a bit damp over there yesterday. At least you and Gizmo were able to have a little fun at Comanche Lake yesterday.

Maybe he’ll post a video later. I assume he got at least one. Everyone else had their phones out getting videos.
I’m pretty good at avoiding cameras. LOL Being tall, I can stand behind everyone. He did get the shot of me the first time I got to ride in the APC though. I was kinda trapped that time. LOL You snagged that one for me.

I certainly WAS having a blast.
I didn’t get to ride today because I was so busy inside. I was lucky to get to step outside for the cannon shots.
Sleep well. I’m about to crash and burn. It’s been a long but fun weekend and the wind has dropped from the sails.
Catch ya tomorrow.

Yep, we had fun at the lake yesterday. One thing I should point out is that there is an ongoing construction project on the highway going to the lake and we've had to detour out in the country because of that.
They started it on Monday. We were able though to use the highway because usually highway construction crews don't work on the weekends.
As you might imagine, I am NO fan whatsoever of highway construction. Those red lights in those zones sometimes last several minutes.
I'm sure a lot of you out there have been through this nonsense.

Bitterness of Stolen Sweets
Food gained by fraud tastes sweet, but one ends up with a mouth full of gravel.
Proverbs 20:17Thieves in Germany stole a truck’s refrigerated trailer filled with more than twenty tons of chocolate. The estimated worth of the stolen sweetness was $80,000. Local police asked anyone who was offered large quantities of chocolate via unconventional channels to report it immediately. Surely those who stole the massive amount of sweets will be facing bitter and unsatisfying consequences if they’re caught and prosecuted!
Proverbs confirms this principle: “Food gained by fraud tastes sweet, but one ends up with a mouth full of gravel” (20:17). Things we acquire deceptively or wrongfully may seem to be sweet at first—seasoned with excitement and temporary enjoyment. But the flavor will eventually wear off and our deception will lead to our being left wanting and in trouble. The bitter consequences of guilt, fear, and sin can end up ruining our lives and reputations. “Even small children are known by their actions, [if] their conduct [is] really pure and upright” (v. 11). May our words and actions reveal a pure heart for God—not the bitterness of selfish desires.
When we’re tempted, let’s ask God to strengthen us and help us remain faithful to Him. He can help us look behind the short-term “sweetness” of giving in to temptation and guide us to carefully consider the long-term consequences of our choices.
Reflect & Pray
When has temptation led to bitter consequences for you? How can you remain faithful to God?
Dear God, I need Your strength to fight temptation and remain faithful to You.
