Howdy, luvie.
You got rain today? WOOHOO!!!!!!
Hey there, radu!
YES! We sure did get rain. It was wonderful! I’ve been a happy camper all day long!
How were things at the museum today. Did y’all have many guests to interact with?
God Bless our military men and women who have given their all.
Thanks, unique.
I wasn't sure how things would go at the museum today. There was rain moving this way when I left this morning but it apparently fizzled out before it got all the way over here. No fog down here but when I reached the top of the mountain, visibility was MAYBE 100 feet. The last few miles to the museum were at a snail crawl. It started lifting not long after I got there at least.
They rolled the cannon out to the parking lot around 10 and got it set up. We already had a decent crowd inside checking out the museum. The plan was to fire three  volleys - at noon, 1:00, and 2:00, but the owner decided to add one more and the first shot was fired at 11:00.
OMG, that thing is LOUD!!! I've been around cannon fire before and though loud, it wasn't too bad. But those cannons were smaller than the Howitzer.Â
And the concussion was something else. It shook the ground so hard I swear my feet bounced a couple of inches off the ground. LOL It did knock me back a couple of steps.
It . was . AWESOME!!!
I got video of the first shot. It was the only way I knew I could get the moment the cannon fired - - screen capture when I played the video on the computer.
The owner is the gentleman in uniform. I think he had as much fun as the rest of us did.
We were busy all day and I never got a chance to sit down. And I didn't get a chance to ride in the APC. :-(
We only got 3/8ths of an inch. It sure seemed like more! But I ain’t complaining and neither are any of our plants. Everything looks happy. Including me.
W O W! What a great screenshot! I’ll bet you were over the moon at getting to see and HEAR those babies be fired. I hope they...and you?...wore ear protection. It has to be 100 times louder than a gun. What a day. I’ll bet the guests were in awe! I sure would have been! Thanks for sharing!
Aw man! I hoped you’d gotten more than that. Still, better than nothing and the plant life is probably happy tonight.
He only took one cannon out to fire. The Napoleon stayed inside. But yep, I was over the moon every time he fired that beasty. It was sooooo cool. And you know I love big booms. LOL
I had earplugs with me but most people stuck their fingers in their ears as they were told to do. A few went inside to get tissue to put in their ears. Any who didn’t cover their ears somehow regretted it, I’d say.
Da Boss said he posted some pics on the FB page but I don’t know how many.
I didn’t know how many he posted. I gather he didn’t post a video? He should have!
That was the 1:00 shot. He let an old friend of his fire it.
Wow - the cannon firing sounds like it was really cool. Thanks for posting your experience and I’m glad you had such a good time!
And luvie, glad you got some rain. We did too!
Howdy, Allegra.
That cannon is WAY cool. The concussion kinda surprised me. I didn’t expect it to pack such a punch. It added to the thrill though. LOL
We all had a great time today, visitors and volunteers alike.
We did get to spend a few minutes at Comanche Lake yesterday.
We also had ribs for supper.
How's everyone doing this morning?
And a blessed Fourth Sunday of Easter (Western)/Sunday of St. Mary of Egpyt (Orthodox)†to all!
†Orthodox Pascha is May 5....two weeks to go!
It's almost Easter...
Yay! We both got rain. Of course, I’m pretty sure you got more than we did, but we’re happy with whatever we get at this point. LOL!
I wish he HAD posted a video. It would have been very easy to do. And fun to watch! But the pictures were great. I looked for you, but you managed to dodge the cameras. Again. LOL!
Good evening, luvie...and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Thank you for the hymns.
Good evening, Publius, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.
Thanks for the additional information about Onward, Christian Soldiers. It is a favorite of mine.
Resting sounds like a good plan...you’ve had a busy week. Mowing and then a busy museum day. I like resting.
Only about 3/8” but at least it was measurable this time. LOL! Every drop matters any more.
