That kind of determination can be made under the law.

It’s broad and will likely be overturned ...

Silicon Valley Tech Oligarchs don't like competition from Chinese Tech Oligarchs.

Alphabet (which owns Google and YouTube) is especially displeased that TikTok is attracting younger viewers from YouTube.

PRC/CCP affiliated companies have access to the user data of American TikTok users:

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/03/is-tiktoks-parent-company-an-agent-of-the-chinese-state/

https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/tiktoks-still-sharing-us-user-data-china/706093/

And has been evasive about this.

Given that, support the forced sale/walling off of TikTok from a PRC/CCP ownership/access model.

Funny they don’t say which constitution the ban is “unconstitutional” under.

I hate TikTok.

But I hate giving a monopoly to Google/YouTube (TikTok's main competitor) even more.

If we can shut down all social media, great. But if not, let China keep TikTok.

As such, do not see this being overturned in the US Federal Court System.

Am willing to wager with FReepers so inclined to do so.

They’re owned by a global investment firm not the CCP

Yes - that has ties to PRC/CCP and which has been documented to allowing access to American data to PRC/CCP entities.

I’m with you I never liked it much

Although DR gave it glowing reviews in terms of conservative content the other night

Ironic that. Maybe listen to him...

The same people that voted for unauthorized spying by the “intelligence” community think TikTok is dangerous.

They will shut it down before they sell it.

Which means that, it wasn't meant as an app for people to use as they wished, and was meant as an app for the Chinese government to use.

In any case, it's doubtful that the Chinese would just shut it down, since it has a large monetary value, and the Chinese like American money, which would be in the many billions. Nobody lets that kind of money get lost. But, as would be suggested, the bigger value to the Chinese is in the spying operations. China is not in control of a media site just to be kind to its users. China doesn't even let their population use the app without having full control of what their people see and do with it. On the world-wide stage, they want everybody's information. There is huge value on taking/using people's social media habits, and that's what the Chinese are after.

What if I told you that ALL of your data is being commoditized and can be purchased (and sold) at any time?

Well what i see is a popular app the government doesn’t have control over, that is their problem with it. They want to have multipal back-doors for the intelligence agencies plus the right to censor anything they don’t like.

You mean a foreign government shouldn’t be allowed to do what Congress just gave the deep state the authority to do?

At least, in theory, you can hold deep state accountable.
It’s going to be a lot of work to reclaim America and I don’t know if it can be successful.

ALL?

I would ask you to provide a reference for that, as I believe that is incorrect.

I also use a FedGov messaging/comms system for work. Please advise how a company is getting access to that system.

I a little bit of time in the Apple ecosystem. Please advise how a company is getting access to Apple Messages, FaceTime, etc.
