Port Authority awards record $2.3 Billion in contracts to MWBEs in JFK Airport transformation

The Port Authority announced on Monday a historic milestone in the ongoing $19 billion transformation of JFK International Airport, where a record $2.3 billion in contracts have been awarded to Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE).

The JFK redevelopment also demonstrates a significant focus on working with local contractors, awarding more than $950 million in contracts to Queens-based businesses to date.

“When we embarked on this historic, $19 billion public-private effort to transform JFK into a world-class international gateway, we pledged that the economic opportunities generated at the airport would flow fairly to the neighborhoods surrounding the airport,” Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton said. “Working with our private partners at JFK and with our JFK Redevelopment Community Advisory Council, we have turned that pledge into economic reality for hundreds of MWBEs and local businesses.”

With Monday’s announcement, JFK surpassed the LaGuardia Airport redevelopment, which set the previous New York State record for MWBE participation in a public-private project with $2.2 billion in contracts awarded.

“The redevelopment of Kennedy Airport is about so much more than new gates and terminals. It’s about upward mobility and pathways to prosperity for thousands of Queens residents from historically marginalized communities who call the airport their workplace,” Queens Borough President Donovan Richards said. “Since ground was first broken, this project has been of, for and by Queens, and never has that been clearer than today, as we break MWBE participation records.”

Having flown into the airport in 2007 and 2016....I will say they’d need three to four times that amount of money to ‘renovate’ or fix the place. If you asked me to rank it....it’s the worst of the top forty airports in the US.

“$19 billion public-private effort to transform JFK”

It will cost twice that and end up like the rail to no where in kali-fornia.

They pay money and nothing gets fixed except the elections.

The country is so balkanized and intersectional now that anyone could claim minority status.

There is no “they” in team.

“where a record $2.3 billion in contracts have been awarded to Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE).”

or 12.1% of the contracts

“The JFK redevelopment also demonstrates a significant focus on working with local contractors, awarding more than $950 million in contracts to Queens-based businesses to date.”

or about 5% of the contracts

which means “minority” contractors got contracts more than twice as often as local contractors

makes you wonder just where the “minority” contractors were from

Everything built in NYC costs ten times what it costs somewhere else, and many many projects are never ever ending - they just seem to go on forever.

And it ultimately doesn’t matter anyway.

We can thank them lunacy of the LGBTQWERTY movement for rendering the laws and regulations that govern those contracts completely meaningless.

I know for certain that if Donald Trump came out today and “self-identified” as a black woman, the Trump Organization would be eligible for certification as both and minority-owned and woman-owned business under the standards of the Port Authority of NY/NJ.

The MWBE status of most of these companies is merely a pencil-whipped process with little basis in the daily operational reality of the business.

$2.3 billion in contracts have been awarded to Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE).

Probably blatant race and sex discrimination. Any other bidders? Or maybe they just don't bother any more.

I wonder how many are Chinese based businesses opening warehouse space to consolidate air freight for distribution on the ground. I am aware that those companies are pressuring the use of only Chinese based companies to support the operations when looking to supply a distribution network. How many other industries do they put this type of pressure?

Many blacks are captured by the Democrats and government in prison-camp/capo sort of relationship.

Projects like this, where all bidders must be minority/women are symbolic of this relationship

There’s a re-development project of an old school going on in our town. There are a number of bidders. The only black developer is a politically connected person, and has obtained all State-Federal grant money for the project - which of course means the housing will be Section 8/low-incoming and migrant.

The local residents don’t want that in their midst, so thy oppose his proposal.

That makes them “racist,” of course.

I only have direct knowledge of federal contracting, but it is quite normal for minority/woman-owned shell companies to win contracts and then subcontract to non-MWBE companies to actually do the work.

It’s all a big scam.
