As a dear friend has well stated, the real issue is not whether John Calvin is your personal theologian, but whether Jesus Christ is your personal Savior. By God's grace, may we see genuine reformation and renewal in our churches--and a Great Commission vision in our hearts.Amen.

While Calvinist momentum has been building for some years in the SBC by quiet but determined 'grace men', we should also look toward other Baptists as well.
John Piper is perhaps the closest modern example of a Baptist preacher with the following and influence that might be compared to Spurgeon's ministry in England. And it is no surprise that he is also a Calvinist.
DesiringGod.org:
What We Believe About the Five Points of Calvinism
I like the quotes from Augustine, Whitefield, Mueller, Edwards and Spurgeon. Surely a fine standard for any Calvinist regardless of affiliation.
As has been pointed out in threads in years past, Baptists churches grow and missionary effort is greatly stimulated when Calvinist theology rises most strongly among Baptists. This has been true since the earliest days of the English Baptists.
Piper and his Bethlehem churhc are affiliated with the Baptist General conference which grew out of the old Swedish Baptist conference centered in Minnesota. Piper's church is probably the flagship of modern Baptist churches. As large as any megachurch but holding to sound doctrine in every detail.
In an era when the SBC tends to make headlines due to controversy or regional press interest where the SBC is strongest, Piper is worth keeping an eye on. The style of his sermons always reminds me of Spurgeon.

These have included Charles Spurgeon, the greatest Baptist preacher of the last century, whose ministry at London's Metropolitan Tabernacle was among the most evangelistic in the history of Christianity. Spurgeon openly and consistently advocated all the distinctive doctrines of Calvinism and publicly identified himself as a Calvinist. And Billy Sunday, the greatest PRESBYTERIAN evangelist of the last century was among the most fervent preachers to call for the individual to make a personal decision to accept Christ as Savior. The idea that receiving and believing are works is a doctrine of man. I challenge anyone to identify a verse of scripture that says believing or receiving is a work.

Some links on the Estep controversy:
Roger Nicole at Founders.org exposing Estep's shoddy scholarship: An Open Letter to Dr. William Estep. Since both Estep and Mohler are on the short list of contributors at Founders, this is pretty serious criticism.
A great page of links to audio and text presentations by Johnson, Piper, Packer, Sproul, Calvin, Resinger, Boettner, Spurgeon, Warfield, Whitefield, Custance, etc.
Monergism.com: Calvinism
Does anyone have a link to Estep's article? I'd like to read it.

Boyce's colleague John A. Broadus--the greatest Baptist preacher of his day--was so certain that Calvinism was revealed in the Bible that he challenged those who sneer at Calvinism to "sneer at Mount Blanc." LOLOL! That was excellent! When I went to Italy in '97, pilot alerted us that we were circling Mt. Blanc heading for landing in Rome. It was close to 10 a.m. and we had a very clear view. It was beautiful, and seeing this quote just brought back to mind what an undeniable work of God it was.
