A Pastor friend of mine said he is always very cautious about his funeral sermon. To much “Happy go lucky, get to Heaven!” stuff and you miss the whole point of the service. To much “Sinners in the hands of an angry God” and you can leave the whole congregation in an uproar.
But he doesn't allow speakers, personal touches, etc during the funeral. At the viewing, or in the nave before the service is ok.

My mother became an attorney late in life. She was, at first, appalled at all the greed. People BATTLED for two bucks. Death made things much worse.
I had a great-aunt who battled with her ex-husband for custody of their bird. That was back in the 20's. Nothing changes when it comes to human behavior.
