I will be attacked by those who hate gun control. I know that.

I'll reserve my comments.

Taxes on bullets isn't a bad thing, if the funds would be applied to costs associated with fire arms by the government. They were used quite oftain in the past as a state would know something was up if more people started buying swords and other weapons, a sign of unrest. Although I must admit a nickel a bullet is a tad extreame.

Just bought a box of 550 [10% extra, free!] for $9.95.

Add .05 X 500 and it becomes $34.95.

Maybe 5000 22s is a lifetime supply. Then add the .45s. They might collect $250 tax over 50 years on the 22s, and $20 per year from the .45s, and that is from just one person. Multiply that by all the others who would pay such a tax. Obviously this will swell state coffers to an amazing degree. We're talking tens of dollars.

Note how it's never "to control guns"... it's "to protect the children", or in this case, it's "to help the hospitals".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, as long as I can say it: every gun owner should buy a box of ammo for each gun he owns, every single month of the year.

When the gun-grabbers come, they won't go for the guns, they'll go for the ammo. This jerk is just the harbinger.

I have a better idea. How about a nickel per pound tax on verbal flatulence. Idiots like Perata could turn out to the goldmine that balances the federal budget.

Seriously, lunatics like this one are a standing threat to the Bill of Rights, and every freedom we enjoy. They would tax into oblivion everything they disagree with.

Forget the nickel, that's the "camel's nose".

If crime is not magically stopped after the nickel tax, (It won't be, and Perata knows it as well as we do), then it will be even easier to raise the existing tax to fifty cents or five dollars a bullet.

And of course, possession of an "untaxed bullet" would be subject to mandatory minimum prison terms.

Unconstitutional - but since when has that stopped these petty little tyrants? This madness is currently confined to California - but it will spread like an incurable virus to the whole country if these bastards are succesful here. They are setting the stage for some very ugly times - they know not what they do - or maybe they know very well what they do.

Forget the quoted nickel! If it's a nickel this year, it can and will be ten a bucks round in a few years.

Ever since Los Angeles passed a law by Councilman Mike Feuer (rhymes with 'der Fuherer') which required purchasers of ammunition to provide a fingerprint, I have purchased all my ammunition on-line. One of my favorites is Cascade Ammunition.

I will never give Mr. Feuer a thumbprint, although I do reserve the right to use another finger.

Ammunition (still) is legal to purchase by phone, fax, internet, e-mail, snail mail, smoke signal, and carrier pigeon. Brought to your door by your friendly UPS man.

Taxes on bullets isn't a bad thing,

Every tax is a bad thing. I'll never pay a tax on bullets until people take heed of Joslyn Elders' recommendation to make safer bullets.
