Maybe it's time to install a payment window in the governor's office. Consider the raises that Gov. Gray Davis approved for the state's prison guards.

On Jan. 16, he signed a 34 percent pay increase for the correctional officers, raising pay from $50,000 to $65,000 per guard over the four-year contract. Then, just over two weeks ago, he collected a campaign donation of $251,000 from the officers' union.

CCPOA has around 28,000 members Dept of Corrections and Youth Authority. My wife's monthly dues are $59.36. You do the math. They spend a lot of money on attorneys representing employees who are disciplined, but they have a lot of money for "other things" also. Don't know the numbers.

She sent them an e-mail yesterday requesting a refund on the political portion of her dues. No reply yet.

This situation is pure bribery and conflict of interest. Public employee unions should not be able to contribute to those who negotiate or vote on their salaries or benefits.

PS my wife and I have both benefited from this bribery.

The LA LA Times had four letters about Davis today, some also about this situation. They were all anti-Davis. If the public can remember long enough, he's dog meat.
