When they start calling him a race baiter and accusing him of using "code words" then we know he is being effective.

Let's see the reaction in the next few days. Davis running around with Jesse Jackson lately is a sign that you can believe the polls showing Davis' unpopularity with his base.

No problem, you have my respect for having endured it.

Peace.

You want to meet someone who lived throgh slavery?

No thanks. I see them every payday, looking at the taxes withheld from their paychecks.

What difference does it make? I have heard that he's 13-14 points behind Grey-out Davis anyway.....

"Hi, my name is Gray Davis. I believe that the best plan for America at this point would include a reparations bill. As a liberal, I personally can't find anything more unifying to the country at this time. You know, we always seek out the best in human nature........

........'anyway, I really think that socking some bill imposing yet more 'taxes' as it were down the throats of Americans is a really good thing. I can't say how yet, but just know that we're liberals, and our logic never makes sense at first to you..........

"Bringing up the wounds of our country's past in a politically motivated attempt to shore up his political standing today is typical of Governor Davis, who offers only politics, and no solutions.

Nothing like a guy who'll stick a finger in an open wound. For cash.

Reparations should be heaped on the Jews by the Egyptians for the same reason.

Reparations might have been the thing to do soon after the war of Northern Aggression, but in this day, not a ##@**^ one of us were, or are responsible for that mess. As an American with native American heritage as well as Southern, if we start paying ancestors of slaves, we might as well give the land back to the native Americans. I certainly don't think they could have screwed up the political end nearly as bad as the liberal politicians have done. I also think that "We, the people" need soon to open not a can, but industrial size drums off "whoop A$$" for the idiots that create these hare-brained schemes. Yes, slavery was a terrible thing, it was a stupid idea from the start, but, dammit, IT WASN'T MY FAULT!!! AND YET ANOTHER REASON THAT THE UN, AS WELL AS DOMESTIC ENEMIES IN OFFICE THROUGHOUT OUR LAND WISH GREATLY TO DISARM THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, so that in a liberal majority, the US gov't. could behave just as STUPIDLY as they wish.

Davis is worried about his reelection, which is why he feels a need to shore up his base vote by being seen in public with Jesse Jackson.

Go Simon!

"We should be improving the lives of those we can actually help today. Any consideration of reparations by the Governor should focus on all children trapped in low-performing schools today. They are the ones who are being denied opportunity. They are the ones stuck in schools with more rats than textbooks.

"Instead of issuing divisive statements, I believe the governor of our state should create economic opportunities and hope in our blighted urban areas so that those whose lives are in despair can know the benefits of a good job, quality schools, and a reliable income.

Less is more . . . I would have preferred that those two paragraphs stand as the entire response.

they think not of the evils which will in a short time result from it.
"The long run" comes home to roost amazingly quickly . . .

Good statement but mine would have been shorter.

Everyone who has owned a slave should pay everyone who has been a slave.

Kudos to Bill Simon for taking a stand AGAINST reparations. California was NEVER a slave territory or state. Since when does our state have to pay (never mind apologize) for something we never participated in? Governor Gray Davis seems to be going out of his way to setting as many Californians against each other before he's voted out of office. Nothing good will come from his tossing a coin into Action Shackson's tin cup.

Just read the LA Weekly. They talk about "holding your nose" when you vote for Davis. They endorsed someone else in the primary, while recognizing it as a futile gesture.

If I had time this morning, I'd find you a few choice articles, but I think you get the idea. The left hates Davis because he's governed too far to the right (from their point of view, you understand).

The Weekly will be endorsing Davis for governor, but in their patented "foot-bullet" way: "We hate him. We know you hate him. But Simon is even more evil, so vote for Davis anyway."

This kind of endorsement makes a lot of people want to stay home.
