Shameless Governor Is a Compulsive Money-Grubber
LA TIMES ^ | 05/15/02 | Steve Lopez

If you're reading this over bacon and eggs, Gov. Gray Davis has already raised about $10,000 in campaign contributions today. If you're reading at dinner, rest assured Davis is working harder than anyone in hot pants and pumps, hustling to stay on his pace of $35,000 a day and $1million a month.

The state of California is not doing nearly as well. With a budget deficit that has ballooned to $23.6billion on his watch, Davis was forced to take time out from his busy fund-raising schedule Tuesday to be governor.

Wow. I read the whole article (I RARELY do that for the L.A. Times.) The author is no conservative, in fact doesn't have a kind word about Bill Simon. But he just GOES AFTER Davis, as well he should. I hope that this fundraising stuff isn't coming out too early, because I think this could be his fall. For those of us up here in Sacramento, we have always know that Davis was for sale. Let's hope by November 5, everyone else in the state knows it too -- and votes for Bill Simon.

It's funny, though...remember, right after the primaries, we were worried that Davis would immediately "define" Simon in the media? Well, it seems more and more, Davis has been "defining" himself. Will these papers endorse Davis? Or will they actually take a historical stand and endorse noone? (Notice I don't consider the impossible a "historic stand"---endorsing Simon would be way beyond "historical"...something less believable than aliens from outer space landing on the White House lawn.)

Hilarious! BTW, Davis does have a pathological disorder, probably more than one.

They'll all endorse Davis after criticizing him for his fundraising and inattention to the problems of the state.

Only the Orange County Register MIGHT endorse Simon, as well as a few small papers, and MAYBE the San Diego Union Tribune won't endorse anyone, or MAYBE Simon, though that might be my wishful thinking. After all, San Diego has been screwed worse than more in the energy crisis by Davis.

All big liberal papers (Bee, Times, Chronicle, Mercury News, etc) will endorse Davis after a slap on the wrist.

That's what's worrying me, though. I see a lot of negative stuff on Davis... but will Simon start campaigning soon? He's invisible.

People won't just not-vote for Davis. They need to vote FOR Simon. I will be happier when I start reading more about what SIMON is doing and saying.

Why wouldn't the Register endorse Simon? They are a conservative paper, right? And surely nobody not totally in left field wants four more years of Davis.

Unless for entertainment value, of course. Reporters love stories like this :-).

I said I thought that the Register would endorse Simon, but I won't hold my breath for any newspaper to endorse any conservative Republican for any office. The Sacramento Bee, for example, only endorses liberal Republicans or are silent on the race.

It's not every day you see a Times columnist comparing Gray Davis (or any Democrat politico) to a street hooker. I don't think that was the kind of coverage Gray was looking for from the Times.

Please-- November election will roll around soon enough. Let Davis hang himself with the media. The budget will finish him off.

Bill Simon is conservative and I know a lot of libertarian minded Republicans are supporting him. If you have a specific question, ask away. If I don't know the answer, you can email the staff at Simon For Governor

Yes, Gary Copeland is the Libertarian candidate. The Druidic Candidate: Can California deal with a Druid for governor?

There are also other 3rd party candidates for the Green, American Independent, and Natural Law parties. the AIP is a branch of the Constitution party. The reform party has no candidate.
