Simon woos Latinos with ads in Spanish

Bill Simon is launching his general election campaign against Gov. Gray Davis today with an appeal -- in Spanish -- to Latino voters.

Simon's ads, airing on Spanish television, cable and radio, criticize Davis, a Democrat, for failing to improve schools. They say that Simon, a Republican, will do a better job.

Davis spokesman Roger Salazar dismissed Simon's ads as a publicity stunt.

Simon IS Not Evil.. He IS Well To Do.. I don't see this as pandering to any voting block as much as taking advantage of a large captive audinece to try and fight a cleaner campaign against The Man That Blew The California Budget UP!

R's seem to be lying a lot lately. W. said a lot of things, but have done a bunch of other things. Even Rush is having a hard time supporting Bush these days. I didn't vote for socalism. If I wanted to live in a socalist country, I would have voted for Gore.

The only thing that I can hope for is that there is some great strategery here and everybody will revert back to being Republican when they capture both houses of the Congress.

The article says that Simon criticizes Davis for his failure to improve education as promised. We don't need to throw more money at the schools, but we must improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Davis promised improvements but was unable to deliver.

Simon has said this in English all along, so this message is just presented to the Spanish-listening voters again. There are plenty of legal voters who immigrated from a Spanish-speaking country and still enjoy watching TV in that language. This has nothing to do with illegal voting, since the dead and noncitizen votes are overwhelmingly democrat anyway.

Airing ads during the World Cup soccer game halftimes is a great idea. Too bad they didn't start earlier to catch the US v. Mexico game. (The live broadcasts are all at odd hours, so some non-Spanish-speaking people watch the Spanish stations' delayed broadcasts anyway.)

Won't happen. Politicians act like X because they think X is popular. If the GOP gaines both houses by supporting socialism, they'll still believe (even more so) that socialism = votes. So ... why would they change?

Vote Libertarian. The LP will eliminate socialism, so that only those who truly want to work will come to the US.

You are so right....been there, done that. I really think that there will be no great Libertarian revolution in our lifetime...(mine is short). There are too many worthless people in this country who want to suck on the tit of government. As long as we are a one man one vote country, it will never change.

Most great civilizations have collapsed because the "leaders" gave away the wealth of the country just to keep the peasants happy (or in line). The people became lazy and the money became worthless...the next thing was opression and dictatorship. I don't think it will be long until warlords will be patrolling neighborhoods in old beat up jeeps with a worn out 50 cal. attached.
