COPS is and always was an extreme left wing organization started by a left wing State Senator and the last I heard has never had over a dozen "cops" in the organization and those are only for the purpose of calling it a police organization. There only function is to con funds out of the public and support left wing candidates for state office mainly through massive mailings of voter guides.
When I ran for the State Assembly in 1980 I wouldn't even answer their questionaire and certainly wouldn't have wanted their endorsement knowing what they were. A friend of mine on the L.A. Sheriffs dept. clued me in to who they were a number of years before that.
