California may become first state to regulate 'greenhouse gas' from cars.

California would become the first state to regulate "greenhouse gas" emissions from passenger vehicles under legislation narrowly approved by the Assembly and sent to the governor Monday.

AB 1493 was hailed by supporters as a first step toward easing global warming, but critics called it "feel good" legislation that would raise car prices and reduce safety.

I have been informed by Freeper Norge that more than 100,000 people called the 800 # to let the California legislators know that they opposed 1058.

That number, 1-800-988-2588, has now been changed to go directly to the Governor's office.
If you want to tell him to veto the bill, now's your chance.
No whining allowed if you don't call.

Ann Notthoff of the Natural Resources Defense Council called the measure "a giant leap in the fight for cleaner cars."

And what do you drive, moron?

Money talks. Red Davis will auction off his deeply held convictions to the highest bidder. He has 2 weeks to run up the price. He loves to decide the really important issues.

Great. Empower the California bureaucrats to design your car.

How long before California has May Day parades in front of the Politburo in Sacramento?

Simon must be salivating over this. Davis is over the barrel on this issue. If he signs it he will alienate the rank and file. If he vetoes it the liberals will go ballistic. Simon wins in any case.

HOT message left. In addition, I plan on reminding every
legislator that voted for this, that the handing off the job of making Regs (laws), is handing power to select employees or appointees who were not elected, and can not be fired unless they committing murder (of a damned Dim).
The cowards were bought and Barbra is celebrating.

They can run, but they can't hide! Rush is right, this is a revenue raising ploy. It's projected income is probably already being penciled-in to off set 'programs' in the making.

So the voters in California have elected a bunch of fools who are throwing one into the voters? Well, it couldn't happen to more deserving folks.

By the time these cars have to be marketed every legislator that voted for it will be out of office due to term limits and my guess is that the issue will receive very little attention in the years to come until it is about to go into effect. It's still a long time until the elections in November and 98% of the public will have forgotten about it by then.

I also predict that the leaches of society, which is the democrap base in Los Angeles and the bay area, which probably makes up 50% or better of the Senate and Assembly, will be given a tax credit (spelled government check) to offset the additional cost so the socialists will still maintain control no matter how much it hurts those that are productive in society.

I'm not sure how worried we actually should be about this bill.

Last time they tried something like this was their mandate that 10% of all cars sold in California would have to be electric. I think the deadline was 2000 or thereabouts.

Well, you probably know there aren't a lot of electric cars on the road right now, even in California.

My guess is that in 2009 the government will figure out this is impossible, and the law will become moot, just as the electric vehicle law is.

So this is a rare opportunity for the government to make the left think they're doing something, while almost certainly not doing it. Look at how they watered it down - most of the things we've been bothered about are not going to happen. No SUV ban. No tax on miles travelled.

They've taken the teeth of this measure and yanked them out one by one. I'm not sure if the result isn't something to laugh at, not to fear.

In a one party system dissent doesn't matter. I feel reaffirmed in my decision to leave the multi-cultural peoples' repudlick of ca.

If it's busy, keep trying. And, if the governor's office is busy, keep waiting to get through. Lots of people must be calling!

People concerned about AB1493 might also mention their opposition fo the vehicle licence fee increases in the budget. The VLF will more than double next year; for a $33,200 car/truck, the VLF will be $500. This will raise $1.3 billion revenue, allowing them to increase spending by about 1.3%.

Allowing them to say they have $1.3 billion less deficit. In CA, spending levels always increase, regardless of revenues.

Gray Davis will sign this! Why? Because he is probably well aware he will not get relected, and why not stick it to the people who will not re-elect him. However, when WE get through with the statehouse and the Governorship, we will resend this legislation to the hell hole it belongs in!!!!
