Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon Jr. toured some of Los Angeles' neediest neighborhoods Wednesday with former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp, promising to spur investment in the inner city through tax credits.

But Simon's message was interrupted by persistent questions about his finances, as protesters organized by the Democratic Party shadowed him throughout the afternoon, waving signs that said "Tax Evader" and chanting "What is Simon hiding?"

With apologies to Carmen San Diego, where in the world is bill simon? I have watched every station looking for this guy to say something about the issues handed to him on a silver platter by davis. Two radio talk show hosts have invited him to come on the show or at least call the show relative to the SUV law and have gotten no response from him. I can only assume his silence is an endorsement of this law.

This clown HAD a lock on my vote (I'm registered as a "delined to state"), but, he doesn't seem to have any fight in him. Is he unprepared to answer questions in person? Does he realize he is running for the office of Governor?

At this point, I will leave the office of Governor blank.

I suspect that he will do a massive "midnight hour" T.V.
blitz, but, that will be too late as far as I'm concerned.

If any of you who back this man has any influence with him or his campaign managers, please tell him/them that there is one independant voter who wants to vote for him, but, NOT just because he chooses to wear the republicrat label.

It's the "I don't want to offend anyone method of campaigning because I might lose their vote." These clowns (republicrats) have no principles and are more interested in getting the other party's voters instead of solidifying their base by espousing the principles which attracted us to their positions and then go after the opposition voters.

As the election gets closer, Simon can talk to the people directly through all paid media because the liberal press sure isn't going to say anything position, but it's too early. People (outside of hacks like us) are not focused on the campaign.

In the primary, everyone complained that Simon wasn't "doing anything" and when he did come out on t.v. seven weeks out, everyone said it was "too late."

He won by 19 points.

Therein lies his problem! He has done nothing to excite the people about his candidancy. If he wins, I will be surprised because he is running a "silent" campaign. He should have taken advantage of the talk show invitation to speak on the SUV issue. The two hosts almost pleaded with him to do so. What a missed opportunity!

I agree that Simon should have gone on the radio, but we don't know if there was a conflict or what, and I know based on the press release I posted that he opposes this bill.

However, if Simon spent $10 million this summer to re-introduce himself to the people, it would be $10 million wasted. The people don't want to hear about it now. They will later.

I've run numerous campaigns (locally) and know that people are far more receptive to messages delivered after Labor Day than before. In 2000 I ran a campaign and we were walking precincts in the summer, working hard, doing phone banks, going to meetings, and NOTHING happened to excite anyone about the candidate until AFTER Labor Day when interest increased a hundred-fold, we had volunteers and phoners etc.

It's Simon's team's job to work the grassroots now, which isn't as visible. I think he's doing it.

Davis has pulled all his ads because his unapproval rating went from 51% to 57% while they ran.

Simon does have his work cut out for him, but not because Davis has fatally wounded him. Davis has far more problems than Simon.

I agree with you. I want very badly to vote for this man and at the end of the day, I probably will, but Jesus he's been a disappointment. He's been served softball after softball by the idiot incumbent and he's been totally AWOL. I'd like to believe that he's just biding his time, but now I think he's just a fool. Davis is imminently beatable, but I'm afraid Simon is not the guy for the job.

Because of his waekness, he would make a bad Governor because he will be a puppet to his handlers. At this point, he is an unknown equation and I will not vote for him unless he gets some cajones and starts to campaign.

Simon should have gone on the radio

I agree, and he should go on talk radio to be interviewed more often, if time permits, since liberal TV may continue to ignore him. Talk radio can be a great asset for Simon.

I have heard Tom McClintock on the radio talk shows to talk about AB1058/1493, tax increases, the budget, Davis' incompetence, etc. many more times than I have heard Bill Simon on the radio in the last few months. Maybe I simply missed the Simon shows.

Simon successfully used talk radio in the primary, and I'm sure he has been on and will be on more during the general.
