Bill Simon stopped in Oakland on Wednesday to speak about affordable housing but wound up answering more questions about last week's $78 million investment-fraud verdict against his family investment firm.

Simon said the jury was wrong. ``There are judgments occasionally that are outlandish, and this happens to be one of them,'' he said. ``We're going to press forward and campaign hard.''

"``His message seems to be: Never mind the judgment for investment fraud. I'm a good person,'' said Jack Pitney, a Claremont McKenna College professor. ``Most people don't find that terribly persuasive.''

Professor of what? Where do they find these people? The presstitutes really are shameless...

You could have bet the farm that if any dirt were possible to find on Simon, Davis would not only dig it up but pile it as high as possible...it's all to divert attention from all the crap he's pulled!

Heck. With all due respect to Jack Pitney, releasing info to the media vultures would just keeping feeding an endless stream of questions. Bill Simon should just ignore pointed questions about the verdict and press on despite the media, which was never all that friendly to him anyway. Ronald Reagan didn't care what the press thought of him and need should Simon.

Yet Simon has been unable to get the investment-fraud scandal behind him. His firm's lawyers have refused to release information about the company's financial dealings. And that has fed into the perception being peddled by Gov. Gray Davis' campaign that Simon is ``secretive.'' Pitney said Simon would do better to come clean. ``Every bit of information he can legally release, he should release,'' Pitney said. ``There may be some embarrassing details, but a complete release will rob Davis of an issue and give Simon a chance to regain the high ground.''

Simon is one of his own worst enemies. Doesn't his campaign have anyone on board who knows something about politics?

Don't get me wrong--I am not crediting these accusations against Simon-- but he and his staff have no clue about how to manage these kind of campaign tactics.

I meant *neither* should Simon. Anyway, sure GrayDown and the media will keep making Simon the issue for GrayDown has nothing positive to offer and for that matter there are MORE questions about GrayDown's ethics than about Simon's. Who's been shaking down contributors? You don't have guess the answer to this one if only the media would hound GrayDown as much as they're apparently hounding Simon.

Simon doesn't care about how it looks politically. We've had our fill of politicians who looked smooth and polished and left us holding the bag. Which very much brings the current incumbent in Sacramento to mind. He's very calculating, very cautious and has been an absolute disaster as a Governor. Simon could hardly be worse and indeed could very well be an improvement over GrayDown. A bumbling political novice and amateur over a veteran political pro and career politician? Ordinarily I'd say no but things are so bad in Kalifornistan, Simon for all his faults, still offers the chance to rein in the Rats. Which won't happen should GrayDown be reelected in November.

We have a little less then 3 months. In my view, the Debates will be Simon's time to shine. He needed to survive the summer, which for the most part, he has.

I don't take all this media spin that seriously. Most voters won't remember half of what either candidate accused each other of anyway.

My defining moment will be Simon looking Davi$ in the eye.. And asking him about his obsession with raising campaign funds at the detriment of the state when it needed a firm hand on the rudder of state.

I agree-- I just wish he would do what it takes to get elected so we could find out.

You're talking in the future tense. Yesterday, Cheney and Simon were blocks apart. Not only did they not meet, Cheney never mentioned Simon by name.

I don;t believe that is correct. I saw a local news report that said they would be at a private fundraising dinner and would be together. Burlingame Hyatt last night, I believe. Dont be trying to shove walls in where there aint any. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I saw that,, and I saw the TV report. They met. That they don;t talk about it or the campaign, is that a problem?

The drumbeat of "Simon Campaign In Trouble" articles are going continue as the press willingly aids Davis, the lead California Democrat, keep his office.

We all know that if the same level of scrutiny was applied to Davis' fraudulent reign as govenor, things would look far different. However, we can not count on that. All we can do is fight discouragement and wait for Simon to come out swinging as November approaches.

Unless it is proven that Simon has been directly involved in unethical business decisions or practices, I'm not shaken.

Keep up the fight to the end!
