Life really sucks here.

By the year 2050 the whole united states will suck because borders weren't controlled in the southwest states.

The article never mentions illegal aliens and the impact they have on the elections. They are voting, in massive numbers.

That's all. That's it.

California is history; lost forever to barbarism. Simon is toast.

I anticipate a Demorat lock on the Legislature and Governorship for the rest of my lifetime--and possibly "forever".

CA is as leftist as Mass or NY or Vermont. Forget it, it's lost.

The article point is the GOP would win elections here and in other archtypical "left coast" states if it reached out to disaffected Democratic voters on issues they agree on with Republicans. It can be done. But if Republicans never take advantage of the opportunity they will always face defeat at the polls. Its Republicans' failure to emphasize the universal appeal of conservative values with ALL voters, nit just Republicans that turns Republicans seemingly near permanent minority position into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Having said all this the very worst thing President Bush could do is write Bill Simon off now and in the process alienate millions of conservatives in this state who are counting on the President to help revive the party's fortunes here. The truth is its better to go on the offensive and give the Rats hell and if Simon at the end of the day somehow should still lose we can take comfort in the fact that the President didn't give up when the conventional political wisdom told him to just walk away. (Which I trust he will ignore and throw caution to the winds; no one ever won anything in life by playing it safe.) In the end the President should listen to his gut rather the RNC poll; he should take the results with a grain of salt and consider there are other factors than polls that measure the difference between victory and defeat. In particular, let's hope he remembers his own campaign, where he won despite the polls. When all is said and done California is still very much in play, people loathe GrayDown, and given visibility and help, Simon will win big in November.

Whether or not Bush backs Simon will convince me once & for all whether he really is with us conservatives. Will he support principle and go all out to defeat the abomination in the statehouse, or will he opt out to protect what very little political capital he has at stake in CA.

They should take a vote on whether or not California should rejoin Mexico ----I would bet there would be a fairly high number voting it should.

"Personally, I find amusing the story about how my son's car broke down beside the freeway and AAA couldn't get to it in time until the Freeway was closed. He then had a friend drive him out there but the CHP turned all the cars around on the freeway because a wildfire was racing toward them. He could see his car, but wasn't sure if it was going to get burned up. It didn't, but it gave him a lot to think about until the freeway was opened again."

Personally, I find amusing the stories I've heard from friends in Chicago and my brother in Indiana about how their car slides off the road in the snow and they never make it to work because the tow trucks are too busy pulling others out. That NEVER happens in So Cal!

"When I go down to visit him, at Pepperdine, I usually fly down into LAX and depending on the route I take, I either go through incredibly expensive neighborhoods or real poverty. When I have pulled into gas stations or as I drive along the freeway, I find that I see lots of new Mercedes and BMW's and lots of really old clunkers. I seriously wonder about the middle class and where or if it exists."

Have you tried visiting Temple City, or Northridge, or Downey, or Mission Viejo, where I live? Of course a 1400 square foot house in those communities probably goes for the same amount as a five acre estate where you live, but what the heck?

"He has told me that even though he has a very nice large home and lot with a spectacular view up here, that from what he has seen he will need to commute about an hour or so each way so he can go out far enough to afford a house."

An hour you say? Oh, the horror!

"Another friend of mine inherited some rental housing in LA, but sold it and has gotten into real estate up here. He told me some stories about what he had to go through to evict people who didn't pay rent from his apartments in LA."

We all know that people only fail to pay rent in California, and that in every other state you can just go over there and shoot them if they're a day late.

"I remember the last big earthquake and what it did to the DC Intertie inverter station. S. Cal was really hurting for electricity for quite a while after that until they got things fixed. Same goes for the freeway bridges that collapsed or were damaged."

I remember reading about the last big hurricane, tornado, bridge collapse, volcano (insert natural disaster of choice here) that NEVER happens in California. Those do cause a tad bit of damage, don't they?

"Yes, L.A. has a lot of good points and some that aren't so good."

Geographic tip of the day- California is more than L.A.!!!!!!!

Yeah. And judging by the manner in which the GOP treated first Goldwater in '64 and Reagan in '76 and '80 it's clear they haven't since Dewey.

And more recently, I understand Dick Cheney snubbed Bill Simon during Cheney's recent visit to Kali.
