Thornburgh was chosen BECAUSE he is a republican.

Would you rather have a Democrap appointed?

Despite your constant complaints about Thornburgh, I notice you have not provided ONE SHRED of evidence why he isn't to be trusted.

I think he's one of the most honorable men in politics.

Can we say Sandy Berger...where did that "investigation"...go?

A lot of Freepers have been saying the investigation against him has been dropped, but I haven't seen an article which states it. Do you have a link?

Dan Rather should be in charge of the investigation.
After all, he knows more about this than anybody and, c'mon,
is there anyone that REALLY doesn't trust Dan?
C'mon, anyone?? HA! Didn't think so.

"when will the criminal investigation begin?"
Here, at least, is the beginning of the legal language. click on link and read and spread the word -

on Newsmax: Was a crime committed? I believe so. Obviously, forgery is involved. But the Texas Legal Code also says it is a third-degree felony if one "makes, presents, or uses any record, document, or thing with knowledge of its falsity and with intent that it be taken as a genuine governmental record" or "makes, presents, or uses a governmental record with knowledge of its falsity."

(Hitler and ilk would never have come to power had the capacity to communicate that we have today was available! And the ABC, CBS, NBC's have not caught onto that - but I think they're beginning to get a clue. Hopefully, the rest of the big media will have a epiphany and out of fear, be more careful how much they spin and spike the news.

They must be blackmailable.

Like LBJ said, "Never do business with a man unless you have his p*cker in your pocket."

Let the shell game begin. Maybe it'll fool the rubes.

Thornburgh is a good man - now if he's given latitude to do the job that needs to be gone the truth will come forth.

C'mon, haven't you been reading the thread? Thornburgh is a RINO elitist that will roll over for CBS. [/sarcasm]

Joe Lockhart resides in Washington D.C. with his wife, Laura Logan and daughter, Clare.

What does that have to do with anything?

Well, it's not as though these guys are gonna have subpoena power.

Big fat hairy deal.
" Exactly. No one under oath, no threat of perjury. What a joke.

I hope I'm wrong.

Read the article that I posted earlier and tell me if you still think that CBS appointed Thornburgh solely because he is a Republican.

On the other hand, Rove might have something over Thornburgh and might do a quid pro quo.

I think Thornburgh is so honorable that I don't expect a business bill paying problem between he and Rove to affect the outcome of his investigation.

Actually, I kind of agree that Thornburgh is above this sort of thing. Thornburgh is not a Rino. I remember when he was considering a run for the presidency, he asked my father-in-law to run a part of his campaign against abortion if it became a campaign issue.

Just what are they "investigating"? Why am I afraid that it will be the content and not the fraud?

Okay...it wouldn't surprise me if Mapes had an internal military connection. However, it is my understanding that you can't just poke into microfiche records EVEN if they are classified and you have a clearance...classified information is on a need to know basis. Abu Ghraib photos are one thing, while classified documents are another.

I still think that it is more likely that the documents were created by someone in the DNC and distributed via CBS News. And I think that it stands to reason that Mapes is clearly involved in this chain of events GIVEN her participation with the Abu Ghraib scandal, as well as what we know about her involvement with pairing Joe Lockhart and Burkett.

Per FNC's Brit Hume during their panel discussion: Boccardi's an old Rather buddy.

Lovely.

Not quoting, refer to entire post for context.

Two issues I'd take per your response:

One, I hardly think 1972 TANG records were classified and in fact recall seeing somewhere that they had been specifically unclassified because of the continual flap over Bush's guard record.

Understand now that this info was ostensibly from the desk of Killain. I don't know if such things are put on microfiche but I recall that if we didn't know what to do with stuff we would microfiche it and dutifully type the title onto the microfiche. Now I worked for private businesses but I think government types would be even worse.

My scenario also explains the absence of originals. Because there ARE NO ORIGINALS! Just the microfiche document. The very reason for microfiching anything was to destroy the originals while having an archival copy.

Second, as tempting as it is, Occam's Razor and all that, to assert that the DNC simply fed this to CBS which ran with it, this explanation doesn't account for CBS' firm insistance that the docs were legit. Maybe because I'm a true crime buff but there is a difference between the way lies are uttered as opposed to truths. CBS denials the week before they caved had the clear ring of truth. I don't believe they would have been as firm and assured had those bogus docs come from the DNC. I would think CBS would immediately be suspicious of that source and would have began their waffle walk a week sooner. Having a copy from a photographed archive made the network cocky.

This is the part that bothers me. CBS eventually did do the retract thing, finally, after a week of being in our faces and demanding that we 'talk' amongst ourselves about the bogus documents. It's simply not in me to believe CBS would be doing all this knowing that the DNC was their only source. CBS believed in some "unimpeachable" source and they believed it dearly. They would never have called a nut like Burkett unimpeachable except if he was delivering microfiche instead of easily forgable paper documents.

But hey, it's just me. Until the link between CBS and its unimpeachable source is revealed I will always believe there is waaaaay more to this story than current popular thought.

When the Democrats needed something to air on a big-time network news program, whether it be lying testimony from a Texas drag-lynching, leaked Iraqi prison abuse photos, false information about George Bush's National Guard service, or anything else that might damage Republicans, the Democrats knew they had "somebody in place" at CBS.

That "somebody" was Mary Mapes, a woman whose own father said "got into the news business to promote radical feminism". She and CBS were, of course, a perfect fit. The collusion between CBS and the DNC in their effort to smear a sitting President in an election year is the biggest story since Clinton's impeachment.

The story must remain front and center until somebody kicks over the rock with Mapes under it and deposes her under oath. She is the key, the go-between, and very possibly the forger.
