The Minuteman Project mistakes the nature of our immigration problem

It will be fascinating to see how the Minuteman Project, the brainstorm of Aliso Viejo resident James Gilchrist, comes off now that President Bush has referred to the effort as a "vigilante" operation of which he disapproves. It has certainly stirred a lot of interest, pro and con.

Now if Mexico wants to be annexed as a new American state, we can talk.

No way. There will be no talking about that. Mexico has never managed to have anything but a corrupt oligarchy/plutocracy as a government. If they got hold of the American taxpayers monies (any more than they already are through their illegal alien industry) then we would be sucked dry within a year.

My father told me a story about my grandfather being involved with a vigilante group in Nashville, Tn. in the early 1900's. Seems there was a man in the neighborhood who used to beat his wife black and blue whenever he got drunk. My grandfather and some of the other men got together one night, put hoods on and went to the guys house. They drug him out into the front yard and whipped him till he couldn't stand, then told him if he ever beat his wife again they'd hang him. Dad said he reformed after that and even started going to church.

If you want to know how this would work at the federal level, all you have to do is look at Sacramento here in California. Much if not most of the mess (budgetary and otherwise) we have in this state can be attributed to the number of Latino politicians that have wormed their way into the state legislature. This reality is one of the big reasons Arnold has a real problem getting anything done because these liberal Latinos (and they are all liberal) continue to oppose anything that will result in less pork for them and their clueless followers. This will change only when (and if) districts have been redrawn to eliminate the safe ratholes in which they have managed to insulate themselves.

Well it seems neo-nazis and racists are also interested in being minutemen as indicated by their posts in their web forums. I'm not sure how you advance the issue against illegal immigration which has merits in it's own right without attracting such detritus which has very different reasons for supporting it. I used to think buying Mexico (ala Louisiana Purchase)was a fair or good idea, not so anymore, now I figure that it is so corrupt now, that simply giving the Mexican Government their own floor in the United Nations Building, some kinda fancy Titles and tell Kofi to Pardon them all, carte blanche, for any and all crimes committed, since they want World Government and all.

I can believe that, but not endorse it (too much). What Vigilantes did on the frontier was nothing less than stand between people and chaos and the predation of ruthless criminal gangs. No law - no protection from crimeslime. Good men banded together and did what needed to be done.

That's true. So many people in the world think Americans are marshmallows, but it is really people in the rest of the world who are the cowards. That's how they got such crime, corruption and crooked governments in the first place. They just aren't brave enough to stand up to them.

You really think that the gang in DC and the gang in Mexico City could get together and smooth over Mexico's history of top down corruption and embrace of socialism, and organize a situation involving trillions of dollars in economic activity?

You have more faith in them than I do.

I believe such an arrangement would be the death of the American middle class, the end of our rule of law, and create a schism in cultures that would make the Balkans look pleasant.
