Hillary ignores far left -- will they vote for her anyway?

In a speech before a Princeton audience of about 800 on January 18th , Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator from New York, had a few words of scorn for the Bush administration's handling of the Iran nuke situation.

So, on one hand, we "lost critical time in dealing with Iran" because Bush tried to allow the diplomatic process undertaken by the Europeans and Iran to attempt to work itself out (wasn't it the left who claimed Bush went to war without using diplomacy in 2001?). She says we cannot "outsource" our negotiations to others (nice usage of a meaningless buzz word there). Yet, on the other hand, she insists in the self-same paragraph that we must have "more support ... by China and Russia" and that we "must move as quickly as feasible for sanctions in the United Nations" (seems like "outsourcing" to me!).

Hillary feels she has the room in her campaign to sound like a tough, military supporting, hawk, ignoring the anti-military left completely. Now, ordinarily, one would assume that a presumptive Democratic Party candidate for president would have to lock up the base before going on the stump and pretending they support the military. And the Democrat's base is the anti-military, far left.

But, Hillary's tactic is more interesting. She isn't making the slightest attempt to ally the fears of the far left. She is forging ahead and aiming solely for the middle of the road voter. With her hawkish stance she is trying to gain the support of both the conservative Democrats and those only loosely aligned with the GOP.

So, what about the leftist, Democratic base, those Democrats that hate the military, or at least hate the use of it? How can she go forward without their support?

Hillary's big problem will come when she is asked by a truly concerned reporter why she kept her mouth shut when her hubby was first accused of delivering oral sex to an intern and then accused of raping a woman named Juanita, who 65+% of the American public believed....... Maybe that reporter could also ask about her pant suit garb, that is very similiar to clothes that Ellen Degenneres wears, and if she might have a slight closet problem....

Hitlery wants to talk about out-sourcing, right? In about 1992, the U.S. had a developing problem in Asia, one the Klintoon administration needed to deal with. How did they do that? Did they send Algore or some other "luminary" from their administration to deal with the sticky problem?

No, they delegated (that's called outsourcing, Hitlery)former pres. Cahtah (small p for small accomplishment pos). They authorized Jammah to go and solve the problem of North Korea. Well, Jammah sure did a bang up job; he told NK to stop working on weapons and in return the U.S. would build NK a nuclear power plant but only if NK promised to never, ever build weapons. And the story continues to this day with NK always a risk of supplying bad mamma jamma to any freaky terrorist organization around.

I agree. Both extreme lefties, but at least he's honest about his views. I thought he probably did himself some good with his fellow lefties during the Alito hearings and I hope he and others can make Hillary run as far to the left as she really is during the primaries.

[Kit gets back to the article at hand...]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't all the liberals, shrillary included, berate the Prez for not waiting on diplomacy from the Europeans (French) before going into Iraq?
Now she/it/they want to whip him in the public square for 'outsourcing' diplomacy and waiting on the European solution to work?!?

Is this just such obvious hypocrisy that no one is even mentioning it? Or am I being thick?

Kit.

The far left wants what they'll never get: A dennis Kucinich type. I think they'll vote for Hillary anyway, though. They wouldn't vote republican...

She has the religious devotion of an MSM that, while declining fast, is still quite powerful. It is really quite amazing that a woman with a history like hers had any chance whatsoever in an election, even in New York.

That's an interesting thought, certainly worth pondering. It's sort of Machiavelian though. I'm not sure the Democrats (or the Republicans for that matter) are smart enough.

But it certainly is a realistic strategy to try and encourage third party vote spliting canditates. It;s been a decisive force through out american politcal history.

I guess the biggest caveat to your theory is that Hill may not want to be used. And she usually seems to get what she wants.

"Well, what do you think?"

Well .. she's trying to have it both ways and it just will not work anymore. The hard-left is unrelenting - with Cindy Shehan and Molly Ivins saying they won't support Hillary. And .. too many on the right remember her antics while she was first lady and I seriously doubt she will be able to convert many from that camp to vote for her. I don't believe Hillary should be too worried about Cindy or Milly - but it could be a potential problem for her.

The key will be her support for the war. The hard-left will not accept her pandering to the hawks - and very few of the hawks believe she is really sincere about her position on the WOT.

The whole political climate has changed since Bill was running for office and HIS RULES of campaigning no longer apply. If Hillary insists on using them she will be defeated - I mean it will not be pretty folks.

However, when she runs for pres and loses she could still be a senator for 4 more years - and there will be HELL TO PAY!! Plus - the next chance for the pres spot will be 2012 - she will be too old - and she would have to chose between running again for senator or the pres spot.
