Mitt Romney: Tea Party movement is great as long as they vote Republican

Hard hitting interview? Sure. Granted, Scooby Doo would have probably been more intimidating, but still...

Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney survived a grueling Newsmax TV appearance Monday after facing questions like: "What is your take on President Obama?" and what his thoughts were on Sarah Palin.

That's not to say the whole thing was a waste of time. The ultra-conservative program did get interesting when it ended he was asked about the Tea Party movement.

Tea Party

Does he think it will have an impact on the upcoming election? Of course. But the Tea Party'ers need to play by the rules, he said. If they win in a primary, great. If not, toe the line.

"If we go in the direction of dividing our conservative effort in the general elections, why we'll just basically turn the country over to Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid and that would be very sad indeed...," he said.

If the Tea Party candidate doesn't fall in line? "Divide and fail is the result," he said.

It was for the likes of Mitt Romney that the Tea Party movement was formed.

No thanks Mitty, I won’t be ‘toeing’ your line. In fact, I’ll be peeing on it.

Why would Romney intentionally put his finger in the eye of the Tea folk. I understand that Romney wants to distance himself from the grass roots conservative movement, but he is throwing a monkey wrench into the mid-term elections. There are some good republicans running in state primaries, like in the Nevada primary, but inflammatory remarks like the ones Romney just made could drive people toward questionable third party candidates. The third party option should only be used as a last resort, but that fact needs to go without saying.

There is something about him that just makes skeptical. I don’t know what it is. He doesn’t seem sincere to me and I know personally I could never vote for this man. I do believe he is a good husband and father and a good man too but...I could never live with myself if I voted for him. I trust my own gut instincts and therefore will hope he doesn’t run.

Don’t know. He will not be a winner if they run him.

"Our" conservative effort, Romney?!? Typical straw man--no one's dividing the conservative effort. We're fighting the enemy without--statists like Obama, Pelosi and Reid--and the the enemy within--statists like Romney and his ilk.

And you don't fight statists by voting for them. "Our" conservative efforts-pfft.

I think you hit the nail on the head. There is something unsettling about him. He has no national folowing except a few (I call them) zealots. Even the zealots make me uncomfortable with their———intensity.

Let me get this straight ...

Sarah Palin saying this = GOOD

Mitt Romney saying this = BAD.
