Dr. Rachel Levine: A ‘fall resurgence’ of coronavirus has arrived in Pennsylvania
Pennlive ^ | 14 October A.D. 2020 | Sue Gleiter

Posted on 10/14/2020 12:05:01 PM PDT by lightman

Health Department Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine cautioned on Wednesday Pennsylvania is facing a fall resurgence of coronavirus.

“It’s very hard to predict what the future will bring, but we have been talking for months that we were concerned that as we entered the fall season, as the weather started to change, that we would see a resurgence in terms of the numbers of COVID-19,” she said during a news conference at the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency offices.

Over the past nine days, Pennsylvania has reported more than 1,000 daily new cases after its latest update said that there were 1,276 new ones as of 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday. In addition, the number of hospitalizations in the state has nearly doubled in the past month with 773 patients currently hospitalized.

“Also, Pennsylvania is clearly not an island, and we are reflecting what the rest of the country is seeing,” Levine added.

She noted across the nation, especially in the Midwest and parts of the West, cases are rising and there is no way to know when the peak will occur or how it will compare to spring.

Fall and winter is traditionally a time when respiratory viruses spread as people spend more time indoors, Levine said, adding the recent spikes have been among younger people, and not just the college age group, but those in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

In recent weeks, several colleges have reported outbreaks with some schools including Temple University resorting to full-time remote classes. Penn State University has seen about 3,355 positive cases to date at its main campus.

The Health Department Secretary said that there are more hospitalizations and a rise in the statewide percent positivity now compared to recent weeks months. She also said that the numbers still do not match what was seen in the spring, and added that a rise in the number of daily testing results is playing a role in the case increases, too.

Compared to the spring, Levine noted Pennsylvania has more resources in its arsenal to fight the spread of COVID-19, including increased testing and more robust case investigation and contact tracing. In addition, she stressed the healthcare system is better prepared with more personal protection equipment.

In the past month, the state also launched a COVID app to track cases and help with contact tracing.

Starting this week, the state will have another tool in the form of weekly shipments of 250,000 COVID-19 antigen “rapid” test kits from the federal government. The test kits will be distributed by need through the end of December to K-12 schools and teachers, colleges, day care workers, health care organizations and drug and alcohol treatment providers, among others.

Pennsylvania is being allocated 3.8 million of the tests, which provide results within 15 minutes. The first ones will be prioritized to counties deemed at high to moderate risk including Bradford, Centre, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Schuylkill and Snyder.

“Pennsylvania’s COVID-19 testing goals remain, ensuring testing is accessible for all Pennsylvanians with symptoms of COVID-19,” said Michael Huff, Commonwealth’s testing and contact tracing director.

At this juncture, Levine said the state has no plans “at this time to change the mitigation orders that are already in place." Also, there are no further plans for business restrictions or stay-at-home orders, she said.

While Levine couldn’t link the recent uptick to large gatherings such as President Donald Trump’s rally at Harrisburg International Airport in late September, she said the virus can spread at both large and small events.

“The director of the CDC has said that it really is small gatherings that tend to be driving that and I think we are seeing that in Pennsylvania,” she said.

As far as fans gathering at NFL stadiums for football games such as the Philadelphia Eagles game this weekend, Levine stressed her department has been in communication with Pennsylvania’s two pro teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers. Data from previous NFL games where limited fans were in the stands and followed social distancing and mask use showed no evidence of an increase in cases, she said.

“I think fans should feel safe. I think the Philadelphia Eagles have really robust protections in place for the fans that will be entering,” she said.

Second wave is much less pronounced when you look at deaths. All the vulnerable people already died and the treatments are much better.

The good new is the left’s ground game is being hindered by the virus. I would think the nursing homes aren’t allowing people to stroll in and collect ballots. Are people still going to be piled into busses to go vote?

They are conflating positive PCR tests with cases while still committing an ongoing genocide in nursing homes. Pure evil.

Just how many of these cases are of any major significant medical malady?
I now now 2 people who’ve had this, and NOTHING more than a bad cold. Aches & pains, runny nose, and loss of taste.
Is all this hand wringing necessary for the majority of the population?
Older folks & pre-existing condition types should be careful. otherwise get back to normal!

Influenza’s Case Fatality Rate is 0.1%
COVID-19’s Infection Fatality Rate is 0.65%.
COVID-19’s Case Fatality Rate is 2.72% as of right now.

Different measures and totally different numbers than what you’ve come up with here.

“Is a new lockdown coming?

If so, will it take effect on November 2nd?”

Could be, could be. Or if not that, then sudden mass confusion on election day as — for public health reasons, of course — polling locations must be closed or suddenly moved, wait times go through the roof (mostly after 5 PM when Republicans get through working for the day)...

All because the Democrats know they already have the mail-in vote in the bag and Republicans will be the ones mostly voting on election day — if we can.

Look for a replication of this Democrat stratagem in every critical state, and probably many more.

However, just as they are beginning to celebrate the success of their latest ploy, some high-profile Democrats may finally see exactly how deadly this “virus” can be.

OK, let me get this straight.

Dr. Shehe says there is a resurgence in COVID-19.

For most of this year, we’ve been forced to obey their rules. This has led to many small businesses being shut down. Those that told them to go to hell were harassed by gubbamit officials.

Now this thing is going to tell us that it is OK for the thugs to go out and play Thugball for the people that still waste that time with that garbage game show during a resurgence of this thing?

I wonder what degenerate in the NFL is forcing them to do this. Moreover, why are they obeying? This is a frigging spit in the face to each and every single small business owner out there. They’re merciless to those that cannot fight back, but will open up the arena for the damn game shows during a surge in cases. Frigging amazing.

On a much lighter note, I am pretty sure our esteemed Governor regrets, to this day, appointing this thing. I don’t think in a million years they expected this self-mutilator to be on TV for months on end. People in this state get to see first hand what a clown show the New Democrat Party has become. I hope that helps out both this year and 2022 when PA selects a new Gov & hopefully elects a better US Senator.

Our Lt. Gov is a similar mess. He looks like a frigging ogre. He gets a bunch of praise for basically accomplishing nothing. He’s also a Harvard grad, so you know damn well he’s a liberal communist (they always fail to point that out ... they sell him like he’s a “common man that worked his way up ... complete lies).

Sweden got hammered for what they did, but it appears they were on the right track. Read the last sentence in this post - this is what PA is going to face & any other state with draconian lockdowns - you cannot hide from this virus. Also, just CASES is not the issue - if the hospitals are not overwhelmed with ventilator cases & the cases are not resulting in high fatalities, then it’s a “casedemic” not a “pandemic”.

Covid-19: Does Sweden have herd immunity?
https://sebastianrushworth.com/2020/09/19/covid-19-does-sweden-have-herd-immunity/

Last 3 paragraphs:
So, if Sweden already has herd immunity, what about other countries? How close are they to herd immunity? The places that have experienced a lot of covid infections, like England and Italy, have mortality curves that are very similar to Sweden’s, in spite of the fact that they went in to lockdown. My interpretation is that they went in to lockdown too late for it to have any noticeable impact on the spread of the disease. If that is the case, then they have likely also developed herd immunity by now. Which would make the ongoing lockdowns in those countries bizarre.

What about the vaccine? Will it arrive in time to make a difference? As I mentioned in my first article, lockdown only makes sense if you are willing to stay in lockdown until there is an effective vaccine. Otherwise you are merely postponing the inevitable. At the earliest, a vaccine will be widely available at some point in the middle of next year. How many governments are willing to keep their populations in lockdown until then? And what if the vaccine is only 30% effective? Or 50%? Will governments decide that is good enough for them to end lockdown? Or will they want to stay in lockdown until there is a vaccine that is at least 90% effective? How many years will that take?

So, to conclude: Covid is over in Sweden. We have herd immunity. Most likely, many other parts of the world do too, including England, Italy, and parts of the US, like New York. And the countries that have successfully contained the spread of the disease, like Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, and Australia, are going to have to stay in lockdown for at least another year, and possibly several years, if they don’t want to develop herd immunity the natural way.
