Suspect in girl's kidnapping listed pornography as Web interest

MARMADUKE -- A self-created profile on the Internet shows that a man police say kidnapped a 13-year-old Marmaduke girl enjoys pornographic Web sites and chat-room discussions.
Police are searching for Vincent P. Quinn Jr., 58, a plumber from Franklington, N.C., in the abduction of Danielle Shea Blair from a Marmaduke city park Saturday afternoon.
Danielle met Quinn on the Internet earlier this summer in a Yahoo.com chat room and developed a relationship with the man. Police say she arranged to meet Quinn at the park Saturday, but when the man showed up in town, she became frightened and didn't want to meet him.
A friend told Danielle's parents that Danielle wanted her to go to the park with her to reject Quinn's desires. Earlier, Danielle told friends that Quinn promised her a vehicle and home in North Carolina if she "had his children," John Nelson, Danielle's stepfather, said.
The friend refused to go with Danielle and went home. Danielle went to the park alone and hasn't been seen since.
Children playing at the park Saturday reported hearing an argument and seeing a blue vehicle leave the park fast.
Michelle Nelson, Danielle's mother, said her daughter met Quinn on Yahoo Messenger, an instant messaging Web site. The two talked on the Internet an hour a night, without Danielle's parents knowing, since at least June.
Quinn's profile on Yahoo Messenger reveals a variety of sordid interests. He also notes in the profile that he likes redheads. Danielle has curly, reddish-brown hair.
According to the profile, which users of the Internet service create for themselves, Quinn said he likes chatting on the Internet, particularly about romance, models and singles. He also said he enjoys viewing and discussing on the Internet exhibitionism, lesbians, erotica, "caning and spanking," bisexuals, exotic dance and lingerie and underwear.
Quinn listed his age on the profile page as 50, but police give his birth date as Oct. 19, 1942. He also said he enjoys camping, boating and yardwork. His favorite saying, according to his profile, is "What goes around comes around."
Calls to Quinn were answered by a machine identifying the home as that of Denise and Shawn Casey and Quinn. Messages left on the machine were not returned Wednesday.
Marmaduke Police Chief Steve Franks said he received several tips about Danielle's whereabouts but none has panned out. Callers from Baxter County and Conway thought they saw the girl, he said.
"We also got a call from Missouri," the police chief said. "They think they see her, but so far none of the tips have been any good."
Police have Danielle's computer and are searching it for clues.
Quinn has a record of several arrests regarding misdemeanor offenses in Connecticut, Florida, Arizona and New York. He also was convicted of felony driving while intoxicated and spent 21/2 years in a Phoenix prison, Franks said.
Phil Carter, a special agent with the state police, said it is difficult for parents to monitor their children's use of the Internet.
One in five children has been sexually solicited on the Internet, and one in 33 children has been asked to meet other Internet users, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
"It's more and more common," Carter said. "They are children and they can make mistakes. There is always a possibility of a predator out there on the Internet."
Danielle is white and 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 156 pounds. She was last seen wearing bluejeans and a blue shirt with a Coca-Cola logo written on it.
Quinn is white and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He weighs 150 pounds and has blue eyes and brown hair with white streaks. Witnesses said he has a long handlebar mustache.

Marmaduke is located in Northeast Arkansas about 160 miles northeast of Little Rock. Quinn's car was described as "an old blue car with a crack in the windshield."
This is EXACTLY what happens in times like these.
Fortunately there's a time-tested snake medicine that ordinary citizens can sometimes apply to the problem.
Today, children have more information at their disposal than we did. Yet it seems my generation was a whole lot smarter than some of these waifs of today. But I guess it's not the kids' faults. Their parents are the stupid ones for not teaching their children and not MONITORING their activities on the web.
