Bill Would Ban BB Guns
KSDK Missouri ^

Posted on 10/26/2001 5:18:46 PM PDT by chance33_98

(KSDK) -- A bill to ban the sale of bb guns in the city was introduced today to the St. Louis Board of Aldermen.

In June, 16-year old Torrence Mull was fatally shot by a St. Louis police officer that mistook the BB gun in Mull’s waistband for a semi-automatic pistol.

Alderman Jim Shrewsbury introduced the bill hoping to prevent similar tragedies. If approved and signed by the mayor, the law would immediately go into effect.

"..But bring in the NAACP and they will turn this child’s
death in to a media feeding frenzy....."

It's too bad the city and it's DA didn't do their job. I don't
know what else that family can do, except to seek the help
of an organization that is willing to force a resolve.

We see the riots as the aftermath and denounce them, but
it's incidents like this, that inspire them. Like the poster
that screams for a revolution, that's what the blacks in many
areas of our country are screaming for. Try as they may to
find justice; equal justice under law, it's just not always provided.

It's time we all screamed for a change. Prejudice against any
group should not continue to exist.

Hopefully there was more to it – simply observing a gun is no justification for a shooting – unless the weapon is in the suspect's hand – not the waistband.

Whatever happened to the "FREEZE" and "DROP IT" before
the decision to fire?

The cop shot the victim from his patrol car. Un-holstering,
drawing and firing takes some time when you're sitting behind
the wheel. Driving forward or backward takes less time.

The kid's going to be dead a long time.

Prejudice against a group is justified in many cases, such as tyranical public servants, fascists, communists, ignore the constitution group, U.N., terrorists/muslims, and the generic "evil doers" cult. Many in government belong to several of the above groups.

Being politically correct is worthless, you have to identify good and evil.

The "kid" had a "right" to play with guns in the "big city" but was it really a smart thing to do?

Justified killing by a cop? My ass. There's too damned much of this garbage going on. A cop has absolutely no right to shoot first and ask questions later.

In your memory, have you ever heard or read of a LE officer ever NOT being justified in shooting someone?.

This one hits close to home today, because my cat was shot by a BB gun yesterday. The vet isn't sure if he can take it out. But banning them wouldn't have helped my cat -- I am sure that the idiot who shot her would still have his BB gun even if a law was passed.

Next they will want to ban squirt guns.

When the idiot shot your cat; was kitty:

A) In your house?
B) In your yard? or
C) Out catting around?

It makes a difference on YOUR next move.

I don't know where she was when she was shot (except I DO know she wasn't IN the house.) I was first aware of it when she came in injured and the Xrays showed the BB in the base of her tail.

She doesn't really go "catting around", she just sits on the front step and walks around the yard in the afternoons when I get home from work. She could have been in my yard or in someone elses.

I hope you are not implying that if she was catting around, she was fair game.

So what's my next move, in your opinion?

And there are those who think only government agencies should have guns.... Law-abiding citizens are not as trigger-happy as many of these high-up givernmental agencies who will shoot you if you display an arm.

Keep kitty in the house...

Some people hate cats, some like 'em in gravy.
