Friday night 17 Wisconsin FReepers and their families met at the Mine Shaft Restaurant, in Hartford Wisconsin for socializing and dinner. What an honor to meet each and every Freeper last night. I am proud to know and be associated with our ever growing group!
WIladyconservative made fantastic name tags for everyone to wear with our FReeper names and real names, a picture of the American flag and "Let's Roll" on them. Ozaukeemom had the digital camera which she used freely (ugh) and gorush has volunteered to post them this weekend.
Right before we started our dinner, we stood and said the Pledge of Allegiance. All eyes in the restaurant were focused on us at that time. After dinner many stayed and had a couple refreshments. It was a wonderful evening.
Comments from WIladyconservative on the WI board:
"I think I can speak for all the WI Freepers that gathered at the Mineshaft tonight when I say we had a BLAST! Good food and drinks and GREAT conversation. Those of you who might have been on the fence about joining a group of unknowns, please consider joining us if we have another get-together. I'm normally a bit shy (yeah right, they all say), but it was fabulous to know that I could have an intelligent conversation with anyone I met tonight - simply because they are on FR! Thanks to WIMom for organizing and inspiring this get together. Hope to see you all soon!"
Here's the list of those who joined us on our 'mini-cruise' last night.
Spunkets receives the award travelling over 150 miles by motercycle to join us! Do you think he'll do that in January? Baggyboy, ozaukeemom's son, is our newest FReeper and youngest at age 10! Way to go ozaukeemom!
That was pure Wisconsin water -- honest.
I'll vouch that it was pure Wisconsin water :-)
Yep, I had my beer downstairs before dinner!
It took me so long mostly because of the reason you cited: I was too afraid to post. Now I know that it isn't hard at all, and if I screw up, it's no biggie.
You'd said we should hold get-togethers once a quarter. If that is more often than what they used to be, how frequent were these events in the past? Just wondering.
Well, let's see - there were weekly rallies downtown during the election debacle, there was a picnic up at gorush's new place outside of Mauston last summer, that's all I know of. Mostly the rallies at Cathedral Park on Saturdays - in order to get the message out, counter the Gore supporters, that kind of thing. But pure socializing? Only the picnic and the fish fry that I know of. We most definitely must do the socializing part more often.
As for your above question, we haven't met very often. Besides the rallies in Milwaukee during election-gate and the fish fry, I have meet Quietly and JeanS for lunch. We definately need to get together as a group more often.
petuniasevan had a great idea for the next event, why don't you toss the idea out?
;^D
steveegg - don't let your head get big - JimRob is still one of my heroes.

Here's what I wrote:
An AWESOME place to have the get-together would be at the Prime Quarter Steak House in Appleton. They specialize in "grill your own" steaks and Texas Toast. Hosting large groups is no problem for them; in fact, they do it all the time. My company had a "ladies' night" for us there and it was GREAT! There are 3 large open grills, all-you-can-eat salad bar, baked potatoes, and Texas Toast. Let me know what you think! Here's their web page: Prime Quarter
What DOES everyone think? Like the idea? Anywhere else sound better? Feedback, please.
Sounds like fun. Would be an OK drive for us (about an hour or so) and we'd be willing to make the trek.
Blackhawk and Jessica Rabbit had the first get-together at their place in Butler (Menomonee Falls) in July or August of 2000. Gorush & Cultural Canary were there, as well as gnarledmaw and some others whose names I've forgotten. A lady came all the way from Illinois -- Zeno (I think).
And during the 2000 election campaign a group (The FreeRepublic Navy) Freeped Algore's trip down the Mississippi. I think spunkets was involved in that effort. I just read about it.
