WHAT ARE THE MOST BONEHEADED STATEMENTS BY THE RATS?
dfu | 1-19-02 | dfu

Posted on 01/19/2002 7:00:43 AM PST by doug from upland

Let's have some fun on this thread. Let's chronicle some of the most boneheaded things ever said by the RATS. Please find a source and give an exact quote.

I'll start.

The Congressional bonehead award goes to Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) who, on a visit to JPL, asked if Mars Pathfinder had taken an image of the flag planted there in 1969 by Neil Armstrong! Quipped Rep. Vernon Ehlers (R-MI) to the Washington Times: "We just don't teach enough science." Worse, Jackson Lee, who represents Houston, is a member of the House Science Committee's space subcommittee. Perhaps some committee reassignments are in order...

Some time ago, Eastman Kodak brought a case against Fuji for dumping photographic paper in the United States--at 360 percent below cost! As a result, we will soon dedicate a $200 million Fuji facility in Greenwood, S.C. Protectionism not only saves jobs, it creates new ones.

Hillary Clinton's Arthur Anderson primer:

I can't recall. I have no recollection of that.

You can get a whole plethora of new boneheaded statements right now by watching their winter meeting on C-SPAN.

"I'm all news, all the time. Full power, tall tower. I want to break in when news breaks out. That's my agenda. Now respectfully, when you start talking about a liberal agenda and all the, quote, liberal bias in the media, I quite frankly, and I say this respectfully but candidly to you, I don't know what you're talking about. Now if you want to talk about an issue, what do I believe as a citizen of the United States of America, I can tell you what I believe in. I believe in a strong defense, clean water, and tight money. Now whatever that makes me politically, that's what I am. What I don't like, and if you want to see my neck swell or the hair begin to rise on the back of my neck, is to be tagged by someone else's label. I try really hard not to do that with other people, particularly people who are in public service and politics." -- Dan Rather to talk radio host Mike Rosen of KOA in Denver, November 28.

For any lurkers who have come to this thread, please note that we are not attacking Sheila Jackson Lee because she is black. We are attacking her because she is stupid.

Great line. Reminds me of what an alcoholic buddy of mine told me. In the days of the the three martini lunch, his drink of choice was vodka. After years of drinking vodka, he switched to Scotch. He said, when I come back to the office after lunch, I don't want people to think I'm stupid.

I forgot, which congressman it was, but there was one during the years when Newt was speaker, he made a statement that the GOP was the Nazis " We fought them 50 years ago, and were fighting them today" I was about to say it was the late Claude Pepper, but I am not sure.

Doug,

I've always found that comment by her interesting...

Even as much as I disdain Jackson Lee, I can't bring myself to believe that she REALLY assumed we had landed on Mars and left a flag.

Rather, I am of the opinion, that she is so full of herself that she just HAS TO SAY SOMETHING! And, she said that without thinking. I just refuse to believe that anyone could be that stupid. Even her. It's too far over the edge.

Let's go to the videotape: Congressman John Lewis, D-Ga., predicted the bill would "put 1 million more children into poverty." Lewis thundered, "They're coming for the children. They're coming for the poor. They're coming for the sick, the elderly and the disabled."

Alec Baldwin on Conan O'Brien..........

I am thinking to myself in other countries they are laughing at us twenty four hours a day and I’m thinking to myself if we were in other countries, we would all right now, all of us together, [starts to shout] all of us together would go down to Washington and we would stone Henry Hyde to death! We would stone him to death! [crowd cheers] Wait! Shut up! Shut up! No shut up! I’m not finished. We would stone Henry Hyde to death and we would go to their homes and we’d kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families. [stands up screaming] What is happening in this country? What is happening? UGHHH UGHHH!!!!"

Great addition to the thread! Alec Baldwin actually had ambitions to be a senator from NY. He is stupid enough.
