Every Arab leader is basically like a very weak Hitler( just as evil and nuts just not as strong) except for maybe King Abdullah of Jordan & the Emir of Bahrain.

Interesting article but it does not see the point. The US landed in the Mid-East big time after the invasion. It sold tens of billions of dollars of weapons and established a permanent presence in the Gulf. Saddam took the bait and the US caught the big fish.

The author is trying to make the point that Wobbly and his bumbling administration waged war against Saddam because Wobbly has some discernible set of principles. That's total BS. The author gives a solid indication of having been drunk from 1977-92. Anyone who could paint such an absurd set of pictures is relying on alcoholic memory.

I agree with your thesis. Bush baited him. It was his obvious intent to create internal price competition within OPEC. With control of Kuwait, Saddam could have turned OPEC into a duopoly with him as the price leader. If he had gone on to Riyadh, well, it was obvious that it was not in anybody's interest to have a global oil price control monopoly. That's economic realpolitic of the worst kind.
