Former chief House impeachment prosecutor David Schippers revealed Wednesday that he helped write Clinton sex assault accuser Kathleen Willey's scathing rebuttal to Independent Counsel Robert Ray's Monica Lewinsky report.
"I wrote that and I'm proud of it," Schippers said, in an exclusive interview with NewsMax.com. "I was just appalled at (Ray's) final report."
"This is nonsense..... This is absolute garbage," the lead impeachment prosecutor protested, referring to the Ray Report's claim that Willey was an "unreliable witness."
"I had two of my top investigators with me when I first talked to Kathleen Willey long before the final impeachment argument," Schippers recalled. After a grueling four-and-a-half hour interrogation, the veteran prosecutor and his colleagues agreed: "That woman is telling the God's honest truth," Schippers told NewsMax.
"When she testified for us prior to the impeachment, I gave her my word that if ever anybody attacked her I'd be there to stand up," he added. "I will stand by that woman until the day I die."
When Robert Ray trashed the key Monicagate witness in his report - which Willey found out about when it was previewed for comment by witnesses who were mentioned (as required by the now defunct independent counsel statute) - she contacted Schippers.
Both Willey and her new husband Bill Schweicker were shocked and distressed that the Office of Independent Counsel would attempt to discredit her, after she'd been completely cooperative despite being dragged into the case against her will.
Schippers' rebuttal, which is attached to Ray's final Monica Lewinsky report and is now part of the permanent OIC Whitewater record, reflected Willey's anger.
"The Report is both misleading and destitute of facts to support the conclusions of the OIC concerning the alleged 'problems' with the credibility of Kathleen Willey," the impeachment prosecutor wrote.
"It is obvious that, for one reason or another, the OIC has elected to forego indicting William Jefferson Clinton for perjury, obstruction of justice and witness tampering. That is a decision peculiarly in the discretion of the prosecutor," Schippers continued. (See: Kathleen Willey Blasts Independent Counsel's Lewinsky Report)
Noting Ray's rationale for not indicting Clinton - that he'd been punished enough through fines and the suspension of his law license - the one-time mob buster for Robert Kennedy told NewsMax, "The guy gave up his license for five years because the alternative was to lose it altogether."
"To say he's already been punished - when Judge Wright found that he lied under oath in a deposition and only fined him $90,000," Schippers said, "He should have been put in jail right there."

I still remember the day we met Mr. Schippers and asked him about the impeachment trial, and whether or not the evidence that was rumored to exist, was true.
I also still remember the look on his face when he angrily called now former DIRTPOTUS a "cold blooded son of a bitch" and called Clinton a cold blooded rapist.
Either of you still have pictures of that day that can be posted? I've lost my copies.
He has friends in high(er) places.
To wit -- let's not forget that both George H. Bush and Bob Dole "sent a message" during impeachment that actual removal would sully the decorum of the semen-stained office.
And he will. David Schippers is a man of his word. I remember him saying something similar to this comment when the Chicago Area Freepers met with him some 2 years ago now, and presented with the Freedom Award.
Schippers knows the truth. We heard the evidence against Clinton first-hand, in grueling detail. I wish I could remember it all, and do it justice. Hell, I wish I could find the original post with the pictures from that day, assuming they're still available in FR's archives?
Between RedWing9, Pilgrims Progress, JustShutUpAndTakeIt and Diotima we recalled most of that conversation on that thread. Very chilling.
The reports are in PDF.
No, but he's the leader of the current pack. So as far as most are concerned, everything is beautiful.
