It is probably still true, because even if the manners of Southerners have declined, the manners of those from other regions ahve also declined at the same rate, thus still giving Southeners the advantage of a head start.

I also heard that hiring people from the small and medium towns of the mid-west is a good bet.

"...etiquette is the civility in an otherwise uncivil world that prevents me from reaching through the Internet and ripping your lungs out and feeding them to you for making such a comment."

Or, ripping his tongue out by the roots and slapping him in the face with it.
I learned my manners in Mississippi, as well. ;o)

Well, with your remark in #1, you at least proved yourself witty.

I heard there was a saying in the old west "Lincoln may have freed men, but Sam Colt made them equal".

An armed society is a polite society.

Marine drill sergeants certainly have their uses, but somehow I think most men are capable of a little more finesse than that displayed in the picture you posted.

He did have some of the best lines I've ever heard in a movie. And Central Casting couldn't have found anybody better for the role.

Actually he was just supposed to train the actor( he was an actual Drill Sergeant) but he was so good they gave him the role.

Robert Frost was more American: "Good fences make good neighbors."

The "man on the right" also does not believe in the phrases "pretty please" or "thank you my good man."

Actually, the Israelite (or King James) approach to the problem is also good:

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

I won't link to the .jpg here (mainly because some of the graphics violate FR policy), but this R. Lee Ermey image is priceless:
