I just thought of something else.I loved about the book, small details that McCullough dug up about Adams. When Adams wanted to stress a point in arguments in the congress,he'd lightly tap the floor with his walking cane! Loved it! I also loved the quotes from Adams and Abigail's letters. There was one letter Abigail wrote to somebody(?)in which she wondered:"Will posterity appreciate the sacrifices made for this country?" This was after Adams had been in Europe for awhile and she still in Quincy, apparently feeling lonely and missing her husband. This book has just got to be made into a mini-series.I prefer a mini-series to a movie because I think more people would be inclined to watch the series.

I agree with you on the FDR memorial. An exercise in excess. Political correctness run amuck. Wordy, inflated rhetoric engraved all over the place: "blah, blah, blah. . . ."

Still, FDR was one of our three most important and influential (for good or for ill) Presidents: Washington, Lincoln, and F. Roosevelt, FDR being both the Father of Big Government and a key figure in WWII. So I suppose a monument was in order. But it's as badly done--and overdone--as possible.

Finished reading 'John Adams' a few weeks ago. It is a great book that every American should read. Adams had 'bad press' unlike Jefferson & Franklin (yep...even in those days the press had its darlings (McCains)....LOL

The press was just awful back then, just like now! They were so nasty! I can't believe they were about as nasty as they are now.

Unforturnately, I don't see any resemblance between myself and John Adams. I have too many of my mothers attributes. I've always been proud to be a direct decendent of John Adams. He has always been discribed in my family as a man who focused more on doing the right thing than just what people around him think he should do.
