Feminist Susan B. Anthony wrote in response to abortion, "Guilty"

What does that mean? That Susan B. Anthony had an abortion?

Fantastic essay--and from a 14 yr old! Logical, fact based presentation, coherent sentences with punctuation. Can't tell you how many people I know with a Master Degree who could not have written such a concise article.

I wonder if she was home schooled.

The case of Roe versus Wade in 1973 is now believed to have been the official decline of the American system of morals.

Wise beyond her years.

"America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father's role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts -- a child -- as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independent lives of their physically dependent sons and daughters. And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being's entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign."

Mother Teresa (Wall Street Journal, 2/25/94)

The battle continues:

It's Time To Reverse Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton

At ReverseRoe.com, you can take part in the most powerful project to confront abortion there's ever been:

The two women who were the original plaintiffs in the 1973 Supreme Court cases that made abortion legal in the U.S. throughout all nine months of pregnancy, Norma McCorvey (former "Roe" of Roe v. Wade) and Sandra Cano (former "Doe" of Doe v. Bolton, the companion case to Roe)... ... are preparing to bring suit to REVERSE Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton!

I, quite frankly, am surprised she didn't get suspended from school....they usually do this to students who speak of God. Good for her.

I wonder if she was home schooled

If not she is very very intelligent! – It’s stories like these that give you hope in the future

Susan B. Anthony was pro-life. She understood that abortion was the ultimate act of violence against women.

hope in the future.

So true--never would have thought of reading such a great presentation from someone that young.

That's what I thought. My recollection was that the original feminists were vehemently pro-life.

But I still don't understand that sentence. Maybe I'm just exceptionally dense today.

I don't doubt she's fourteen. Many junior high and high school students can write this well. Her writing doesn't suck, but there were many grammatical errors in this text, and the rhetoric (good rhetoric, but rhetoric nonetheless) is obviously regurgitated from what she's heard her politically aware parents talking about. I'm sure her beliefs are sincere, but there's no way she came up with all of this on her own.

My daughter is a very gifted writer and could very well have written something like this when she was 14.

A student who is well-read can pick up vocabulary and phraseology from places other than home, though I suspect she wouldn't be reading the type of material that would lead her thinking this way without encouragement at home.

There are some slight errors in usage of words that I find very consistent with the writings of a child that age, who is wise beyond her years in some ways but still not a fully mature writer.

However, the main thing is that whatever her age and whatever her background, the young lady makes some outstanding points. I only wish that many more adults shared her views!

I don't doubt that the person who wrote this is 14, because I was an exceptionally good writer at her age too (as told to me by countless teachers, friends, and strangers as I was in high school and then college). Not all 14-year-olds are dunces--especially those with parents who encourage them to think beyond Britney Spears and other aspects of youth culture.

Like other posters have said, young people like her give me hope for the future when everything else seems to be going to hell in a handbasket.

The meaning of the author is not clear on this point but both Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton were committed opponents of abortion and eloquent ones.

That's why I was kind of taken back; I remember hearing that the first feminists were strongly opposed to abortion.

This young girl has courage and conviction, rare qualities in these time to say the least. I'd be curious to know what her grade on the paper was.

My sons often wrote about the Second Amendment when they had to choose a topic for an essay. One teacher (liberal) actually admitted to my son that she had changed her views and was more in favor of gun rights as a result of his papers. We conservatives must take every opportunity to educate the sheeple, they mostly only ever hear the liberal slant to any and all issues.

Thank you to everyone who gave praise or criticism for my article. =) My Mom posted it under my screen name. I am indeed 14 (but my birthday is on April 21st, in case anyone cares) and I go to University City High School in San Diego. geaux- The quote by Susan B. Anthony had a typo, and was supposed to read "Guilty? Yes, no matter what the motive, love of ease or desire to save suffering from the unborn innocent, the woman is awfully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life, and it will burden her soul in death." I'm sorry for the confusion. =) arepublicifyoucankeepit- I received an "A" on this particular assignment, but it was a low "A" (probably due to the fact that my teacher is close minded and pro-choice, although I can't judge). LibertyGirl77- All of the thoughts and arguments displayed in the article are mine. I know that I'm not a perfect writer, but then again, I'm only 14. ; )
