2. When the Mormons moved to Utah, it wasn't a state. It wasn't even a part of the territory of the US. (Or at least most of it wasn't.)
Considering how well the last attempt at secession worked out, you would think people would try to find some other, less suicidal way of influencing the society they live in.

Mrs. CD & I are going to The Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond this weekend.
I have wanted to visit for some time now and we finally decided to do it.
They are having a lot of events for the "Celebrate South Weekend", some of which we may try to attend.
