2. When the Mormons moved to Utah, it wasn't a state. It wasn't even a part of the territory of the US. (Or at least most of it wasn't.)
Considering how well the last attempt at secession worked out, you would think people would try to find some other, less suicidal way of influencing the society they live in.
Those that secede don't ask for violence. The powers that be seek to quash dissent by killing those who only wish to be left alone to form their own society. Why would an attempt at secession by Texas, let's say, be justification to kill thousands of people who only wish to be left alone?
