These ladies remind me of The Ellen James Society in John Irving's novel "The World According To Garp." These were women who cut out their tongues to protest the rape and mutilation of a young woman named Ellen James. The two key differences are that these ladies only mutilated themselves, and that they were fictional. Truth sometimes is stranger than fiction.

I'd say that everyone has the "right" to bear children (unless we are going to implement forced sterilization). However, there is no "right" to recieve assistance to conceive children. You are at liberty to try.

Adoption is not a "right" (I don't really accept the concept of the grandparents legal visitation rights to a grandchild).

Our legal system has even decided that there is no right to parenthood (your children can be taken away from you).

Looking at the thinking behind the conception of a child brings up issues of "thought crime" although when thoughts become deeds, prosecution can begin. This couple was practicing eugenics to create the strong possibility of the afflicted child that they wanted.

Since they deliberately wanted a "hobbled" child and did what they could to create and applaud this situation, they are not looking out for this child's best interests and could be subjected to CPS.

There are mothers-to-be who smoke and drink (and take offense at anyone that confronts them). Some courts have tried to prosecute this as child abuse.

Could a deaf pregnant mother place a large speaker on her stomach and turn her stereo up to 11 to induce deafness? Would this be permissible ("it's not a human, yet")?

These degenerates need to read up on Munchausen By Proxy Syndrome "(MSBP), an individual makes another person sick in order to accrue the same gains--but this time vicariously. This is a form of abuse in which children are the usual victims."

They're as stupid as they are evil. Past a certain age, the brain will "forget how to learn" to hear or see. It's why doctors insist on treating vision or hearing handicapps with aids as early as practically possible.

Please limit your quotes from the WP article if anyone chooses to read it as there is a restriction on FR's use of WP material. There is this tidbit about their employment: "both professionals in the mental health field". The inmates seem to be running the asylum these days.

In China, where parents are restricted to one child, there are parents who will abort a girl child (or drown her soon afterwards). But then, we can't question the actions of parents who only want to produce a "specific" baby.
