From Reuters:
U.S. ties future Palestinian aid to terror fight |

WASHINGTON, April 16 (Reuters) - The Bush administration
announced on Tuesday it would tie future aid to the
Palestinians to their success in fighting terrorism.
In a memorandum signed by President George W. Bush, the
administration agreed to let the Palestine Liberation
Organization maintain offices in Washington, and authorized
humanitarian and trade assistance for the Palestinian people
for the next six months.
But the administration said future U.S. aid would be
contingent on the PLO cracking down on terrorism as Bush has
demanded. "We will be watching Palestinian compliance very
closely," an official said.
Under U.S. law, aid for the Palestinians must be renewed
every six months.
The announcement comes as Secretary of State Colin Powell
is in the Middle East trying to negotiate a cease-fire between
the Israelis and Palestinians to end 18 months of violence that
has killed at least 1,274 Palestinians and 452 Israelis.

Bush Waives Provisions 1987 Anti Terrorism Law "in the national interest"...According to you according to some CNN hack. But it looks like Bush is doing something very different altogether, as reflected in the post by RCW2001.

Sounds VERY deceptive...the story isn't at ALL what the headline says...please NUKE it!
To: Phil V.
Let me see if I got this right. By Bush's criteria, if the North Koreans nuke LA and SF (not a bad idea actually), but are still engaged in peace talks, then they are not terrorists.
Wow! Bush is a genius!
To: Phil V.
So the shrub, is saying just like the boob and the bush that the PLO organization is not a terrorist organization.
I suppo9se next a former president will be going to cuba to talk with the democraticaly elected leader there.
I do like this straight talking texas governor, reminds me of his role model in the best little whore house in texas. //sarcasm on

This is a smart move on Bushs part.
The deal is : funding if they root out terrorism. They have 6 months. If the job isn't done, no funding AT ALL. It's a way out of continuing US aid altogether, but it will be Arafats fault, not Bushs.
This way he can say he was overly helpful, but they renigged on the deal, therefore will recieve no funding whatsoever. That's fair.
Bush is the good guy, and Arafat has to explain to his people why they're starving.
The whole world will see how America has bent over backwards for peace, but Arafat didn't want it.

"You get what you pay for." Too late to whine now.

I get a really bad feeling about what this means for the United States.

What is the difference between The PLO and Al Queda? Nothing. All the same we take our chances...laughed at by time...tricked by circumstances.

Absolutely outrageous.

President Bush, in the "national interest", has just waived provisions of the 1987 anti terrorism bill which prohibit funding of terrorist organizations. Funding of the PLO to continue "in the national interest".
You've got to be kidding me. President Bush is going to continue the US policy of funding terrorists because according to him it is "in the national interest" to do so??!! Why does this come as no surprise?
To: Phil V.; OKCsubmariner; rdavis84
White House spokesman Sean McCormack said the president determined -- as he must do, by law, every six months -- that it is in the United States' "national security interest" to continue relations with the PLO. The routine waiver of a 1987 anti-terrorism law essentially certifies that the PLO is not a terrorist organization. I'll sleep better tonite knowing the PLO is NOT a terrorist organization.

This is the same idiot that said that "Japan has been a very good ally for the last 150 years."
Nobody said that GW was smart. Just that he wasn't Al Gore.
