The church does not officially forbid homosexual priests as long as they abide by celibacy rules. The church should take their lead from the boy scouts.

"How weak is their calling if they get the willies about being around gay men?"Ah, could I broach the subject by saying, "That's exactly what they're afraid of getting Bright Path!" It's not from being around them. It's from them. Duh!

The church does not officially forbid homosexual priests as long as they abide by celibacy rules. Can someone explain this one to me? It is my understanding that celibacy is defined as one who does not marry; one who practices sexual abstinance. So how in the hell do the pillow biters get away with just because they are not having sex with a woman, they a celibate?
Get rid of the queers--get rid of the problem. Simple as that.

I have no quarrel with them adopting the Boy Scout model. How the heck did we get here anyway? But this is absolutely the wrong time to make the case for such in my opinion. I absolutely equate this as a homosexual act, however blaming it on that alone is missing the mark in my book. Heterosexual oriented Priests looked the other way as this happend. To blame this solely on Homosexuals is a terribly self-serving thing to do. The criminality involved here wasn't isolated to one sexual preference IMO. Perps maybe. Silent partners no.

You're right, the blame must be shared, but the root problem must also be faced ASAP.

Hey, at least someone gets it - BUMP!
The infiltration of this malignancy into the Church and it's propagation and subsequent cover up is the reason the church is having this problem. Now that they are beginning to understand this maybe they can fix it.

I have sometimes contemplated what it would take to take on a life of celebacy as a Priest. Not that I every contemplated actually doing it for real, but the thought itself intrigued me. I honestly can't see the decision to live a life of celebacy coexisting with the thought that homosexuals would be holding that same position within the church. Such an oath would be done in the interest of living as pure a life as possible separate from earthly desires. Viewing homosexuality the way I do, the very thought that this position would be open to homosexuals would destroy my whole mind-set.

Here we go. We knew it would happen. The gay defense begins.

"How weak is their calling if they get the willies about being around gay men?" Just attend one gay pride parade and you'll understand completely why straight men would get the willies around that bunch.

I don't consider it a "defense".Its actually being honest about one of the root causes of the problem. And,a root cause of a few other societal problems,in my opinion.

Not quite that simple. The problem arouse directly from pedophiles in the clergy, but the problem became ongoing and monumental in size because of the hierarchy who thought they had to protect The Church at all costs, by covering up the problem.
The Pope did insinuate that violations of law concerning child molestation should be reported immediately and directly to law enforcement agencies.
If The Church wants to regain the trust and respect of the faithful, all violations of law should have been included. Who knows what might be the next scandal.

Medicine may want to draw some distinction between a pedophile and homosexual but the NAMBLA cohort has already insisted that 8 is too late. Where are the screaming queens throwing condoms at NAMBLA?

If they focused on INDIVIDUALS committing CRIMES maybe we would be getting somewhere, but if that CRIMINAL had gone to CONFESSION???...is there a CATCH-22?
Is there any JUSTICE for the VICTIM in the CHURCH?

"Gay Catholic groups said they were outraged that the church appears to be blaming the pedophilia scandal on homosexuality" I've heard that, but I also heard somewhere else that 95% of the cases are with teenage boys. If true, that's more homosexual than pedophilic.

Gregory, head of the U.S. Conference of Bishops, said the clergy faces recruitment problems "when there does exist within any given seminary a homosexual dynamic that makes heterosexual young men think twice before entering for fear they may be identified with that orientation or that they would be harassed." A friend of mine entered the seminary last year. He skipped local St. John's Seminary in Brighton (under Cardinal Law) for this very reason. He's now at a traditionalist seminary (with a "no poofta" policy) under Bishop Bruskewitz in Nebraska.
I'm very happy that the Cardinals have spoken the unspeakable word. Now things will get interesting.

It appears that almost all of the victims were boys which means same sex (homosexual = solely attracted to the same sex).

This is beyond being misleading...this is pure de wrong! Back at the beginning of VaticanII in 1961 the was a document prohibiting the ordaination of homosexuals and this document is still current...has not been altered or repealed. So now we have the major newspapers misrepresenting Magisterial teachings to the general public and the catholic at large. Time to blast back at this paper, folks!
