In a country where complacency grows exponentially, despite disappearing freedoms, despite ever-shrinking security and despite increasing government control ... ...people have the gall to ask, Why do you care?
Well, Ive got news for you -- it CAN happen here. Its already happening. With every right and freedom we give up willingly for the good of the whole, we abdicate a portion of our humanity -- our power to make rational choices. With every Its not happening here, so why should I care? we abandon free will. With every Why do you care? we throw away our power to thwart tyranny.

I've always believed that when tyranny is formally and finally institutionalized with a full suspension of the Constitution, it will happen in a way that will cause most "conservatives" to praise it as boldly patriotic. Free Republic momentarily caused me to reconsider that stance - but then along came the "Patriot Act."

Why care? Remember that old saying 'When they came for the XXX, I didn't care because I was not an XXX, when they came for YYYY, I didn;t care ... when they came for me there was no one left to care .."

This is the kind of society I came from. It was a society beaten, depressed and dejected. It was a society of individuals who didnt care about protecting and defending their lives, because they had hardly any lives to defend. If you want to see what this looks like in the flesh today, visit a busy US international airport.
And get used to the look.
