A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 4/29/02

President Bush headed to the left coast today with stops in New Mexico and California. Bush addressed a crowd at the University of New Mexico saying that he will work to pass federal mental health parity legislation to eliminate disparites in the coverage of mental health benefits. The President then headed to Los Angeles where he made several stops before attending a fund raiser this evening. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

Senator Pete Dominici was on George H. W. Bush's "short list" for running mate in 1988. In fact, according to some accounts, he was the leading candidate for a while, and was passed over at the last minute because of health concerns due to the fact that he was a smoker. Dunno whether he still smokes, but it looks like the old boy has held up well.

I sometimes wonder whether the 1992 election might have been different had GHWB not had Quayle in the role of albatross around his neck. And I mean no disrespect to Quayle, but Bush the elder should have seen that Quayle would be widely perceived -- fairly or not -- as insufficiently experienced for the job at hand, much less for the Presidency should the unthinkable have occured.

BTW, have there been any Quayle sightings lately? He moved to Arizona, and then disappeared into a black hole, as far as I can tell.

Apologies for straying off topic, but seeing Dominici stirred some memories.

Thanks, rintense, for your efforts in providing pix of our Pres which typically the media ignores.

You know that verbal gaffe thing still makes my angry. I saw Al Bore talking and he was barely sounding literate. Stuttering all over the place, and the media say nothing. Here is MD (OK - give me the pity sigh), Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (we must always mention the Kennedy part) falls all over her words, and nothing is said.

But of course, there is no media bias there.

she just got through the part about the verbal "gaffes" and she was like "So What!?!"

Tell her that that part made me furious! I almost drew a moustache on the author's picture in the back of the book because of it!

btw, did you hug her yet?

It's great that you're posting here for your mom. (And you get an A+ for your correct punctuation from this ex-English teacher. LOL) Why don't you get a screen name and register, so we'll know what to call you?

I thought you'd appreciate that. You have to have lived around Minneapolis to believe how much it is like LA with regards the whole entitlement attitude.

"Can you smart people here help me out with some really good questions..."

Well, one of the smart people here could phrase it better, nonetheless- how about asking how things would be going in Israel if Al Queda hadn't been smashed by President Bush and was able to participate (lead?) in the Palestinian terrorist attacks?
Seems to me there would have been a lot more blood shed if that bunch was able to bring their previous abilities to bear.

And... God Bless President Bush!

I like Pete Domenici, and I agree that elder Bush would have been better off with him. Dan Quayle always came across as the snot-nosed, yes-man kid. Maybe that was part of the media's fault, but personally I never liked the guy.

Thanks, this kind of stuff happens often. Remember, when we delete an account there are reasons you may not see. This is a good example of something others will not know about, but a few will.
