SLOUCHING TOWARD SWARTHMORE [Jonah Goldberg]
I received the following email in response to my column from a student at Swarthmore College. It speaks for itself:
"I've been reading your NRO column for some time and I couldn't agree more with your latest column on censorship. I am one of a relatively few (this is an understatement) conservative-leaning students at Swarthmore College. I am afraid to tell you that the toothpaste has long been out of the tube here. Recently, a Swarthmore student was arrested by the FBI for possessing pornographic images of pre-pubescent children and soliciting sex from a minor over the internet. And wouldn't you know it but everyone came to his defense, writing letters to the Phoenix (our school paper) that this student posed no threat to the community. One girl, who is a student and has a 5 year old-daughter, responded to these letters by claiming that as a mother, she thought the pedophile posed a grave threat to the community. Well, she was lambasted in private forums as worse than a pedophile because she had chosen (gasp!) not to have an abortion when she was a pregnant teenager. So that about seems to be the consensus here, that a girl who chooses not to have an abortion is worse than a pedophile. Oh well. I suppose this sort of thing happening at Swarthmore won't surprise many, but I was shocked."Posted 4:34 PM | [Link]
According to Lucifers minions on the left, yes. There's nothing they dispise more than a saint.
The schools have become Lucifers playground, and soon the nations children will be the acedemias sex toys. The propaganda has already started.
Once I'd thought that a technically oriented school would be secure against the leftist ravagements. I was wrong. A Northeastern engineering college is quite as likely to have this sort of infestation as a West Coast liberal arts school. I learned that two years ago when I sent my elder daughter to one, and they attempted to force her to undergo one of those three-hour closed-door nobody-leaves PC-brainwashing sessions they call "freshman sensitivity training." (I emphasize attempted. They didn't reckon on her cell phone, or my willingness to call the local police department and charge them with kidnapping. She got out after an uncomfortable half hour.)
Thomas Sowell's Choosing A College might be of assistance, if it's been kept up to date. The infection has spread so far and so fast that one should only go by the freshest information. When you hear that Notre Dame is inviting pro-abortion speakers to its campus, you know that you can no longer rely on collegiate affiliations or traditions.
