A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 5/15 and 5/16/02

This is a special double-edition daily dose due to FR being down yesterday...

President Bush and his administration were in the defensive today as Democrats and the media swarmed around revelations that the President was given a general warning about possible hijackings before September 11th. It was revealed later in the day that the very same Democrats leading the negative charge, Tom Daschle and Dick Gephardt, also knew of the briefings yet failed to let the media know. By the end of the day, it was the Republicans in Congress leading the charge and taking the Democrats to task for their usual games of partisan slander.

This afternoon, in a move to give the public more knowledge on the exact nature of the briefings, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice confronted the media with detailed national security intelligence in the months leading up to September 11th. It was made clear that the intelligence briefings given to the President were not specific or detailed enough to prevent the suicide bomber attacks.

In much lighter news, the President began the day at the First Annual National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. Later he presented the Congressional Gold Medal to President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy.

Ah, Mo, isn't Nancy the lucky one? She's married to one great guy, and gets to bask in Bush's attention. He seems to have her totally charmed.

I can't believe how at ease and even happy in some pictures Bush looks in light of the viscious attacks he's had to withstand today.

In a way I feel like this is a test of the American public - will they be smart enough to see through the partisan attack it so obviously is, or will they fall for the misleading headlines and lies. I'm not optimistic.

Is there anyone here who has even the slightest realization that gratuitous celebrity worship of political caricatures might be detrimental to the frank discussion of political failures and missteps that threaten our constitutional republic?

Why yes! And it MUST be you. Pound sand, you jackass. You picked the wrong day and the wrong thread to try a subtle slam.

I love the pictures of W with Nancy! He's so solicitous, and almost flirtatious. And she looks like she's really enjoying him. It must be so hard for her! People are finally acknowledging the success that Reagan had, but she can't even talk to him about it.
I think the attention from W meant a lot to her.

Bob Byrd with his lax clap

I noticed that lame clap. It looked like his hands were too heavy and he was having trouble forming a clap. It gave me some sort of sick satisfaction to see him forced to be polite. (The old coot)

You know rin, Clinton was always saying "I feel your pain" but you knew that he didn't. In all of these pictures you can see that President Bush actually DOES feel their pain, and he wraps his arms around people as though he wants to take that pain away, onto his own shoulders.

How can you ever thank God enough for giving us this leader when we needed him most?

Correct. I have been putting off donations but today sewed it up for me. The donations will start rolling in to the Republicans, thanks to the Demonrats and their outrage! Every time I hear Cynthia McKinney's name mentioned, every time I see Gephardt's face or Daschle or Hillary Clinton's - I am sending in another donation. I get that many requests every day!!! Why not respond - $10 or $20 every time I see their uglinesses!

Oh, thank you, I have been trying to find out how to get these. Well worth the small contribution, (would have given anyway, but this is a bonus!).
