June 8, 2002 -- The death in the Philippines of Martin Burnham, one of the two American hostages held by the Islamist Abu Sayyaf kidnap-for-ransom gang, underscores the global nature of the War on Terror.
Burnham, a Kansas-born missionary who along with his wife Gracia was kidnapped in May 2001, was killed in a shootout between the Abu Sayyaf terrorists and U.S.-trained Filipino troops.

I am so sorry about the nurse. She was kidnapped apparently only to give medical attention to the Burnhams. The Burnhams were there taking known risks to spread the Gospel. The nurse was an innocent bystander who was caught up in the evil web.
If anyone has any information about this Philipina nurse, I would like to see it.

I believe they were there for a "second honeymoon". Don't know if I would be preaching on my honeymoon and even if they were, so what.

I don't have details on where they were when they were kidnapped, and whether they were there for business or pleasure. It would be more alarming if they were in a major city 'controlled' supposed by the government than in a remote area voluntarily taking known risks.
So what?

I try to support missionary work to spread the Gospel. That is why I was more than usually interested; I thought they were there to do the Lord's work. (I once wanted to be a medical missionary, but my health was never good enough to venture to places with rare diseases and poor medical care.)

Nurse was forced to marry one of the Islamic honchos in this gang. He needed an outlet for sex and she was it

Why would the terrorist waste the time to "marry" her? Makes no sense to me, as she was a hostage or maybe a sex slave.
BTW, isn't the island this particular group is on unihabited? Except of course by the terrorists. Do we have a few of those fuel-air bombs handy? Can we make more if we needed them? Or would a very quick release of hydrogen be better suited for the environment?

I don't think that would matter in the least. If he was the lead junk yard dog, no one else would touch her for fear of their lives. Do you really think that group believes in the sanctity of marriage?

Well you have something there. Maybe they wanted to treat her more respectfully since she was a nurse. And the story is she was kidnapped to provide the Jihadist brigands with medical assistance. Would you want medical help from a battered whore/sex slave? So they made the whole deal as legit as possible by forcing her to marry one of the Jihadi leaders.
Just my guess of course.

When you have a gun pointed at your head all of the time, most people are not concerned about respectibility. I also don't think that a terrorist who has been holding hostages in the jungle for months is all that concerne about how the world sees him.
All that said, I am very sorry that two more innocent people have died.
