Why would the terrorist waste the time to "marry" her? Makes no sense to me, as she was a hostage or maybe a sex slave.

I don't think that would matter in the least. If he was the lead junk yard dog, no one else would touch her for fear of their lives. Do you really think that group believes in the sanctity of marriage?
