'Sawgrass Rebellion' launched: Henry Lamb argues people come first in America

Taking a page out of the cowboy's history books, leaders of several community organizations in South Florida, have decided to launch a "Sawgrass Rebellion," in an 11th-hour effort to save their homes and their land from the ravages of government.

Thousands of people are being forced off their land in order to restore the Everglades to its "natural" condition. The tool being used to pry these people off their land is the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan, a $7.8 billion group of projects that are designed to accomplish precisely the objectives set forth in The Wildlands Project.

A generation ago, it was the Federal Comprehensive Land Use Planning Act that launched the "Sagebrush Rebellion," which twice defeated legislation that would have given the federal government authority to dictate local land-use policy.

The federal government abandoned its direct effort to declare authority to dictate land-use policy and, instead, resorted to a series of laws which provide land use control authority while calling it "environmental protection." The Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, dozens of "Wilderness" acts, and a laundry-list of programs promulgated by stretching the authority of these laws. The result is a federal government that effectively controls the use of every square inch of land in America.

The cowboys had to pretty much go it alone; the people in the East were not particularly concerned. But the cowboys won in their day.

The people of South Florida, however, are not alone. The "Sawgrass Rebellion" is being joined by grassroots organizations from across the country. Leaders of more than 60 of these organizations are meeting in Nashville today, July 20, to develop strategies and plans to convince government that the people of America will not sit idly by and watch their private property rights be taken from them.

When the feds decided to close South Canyon Road near Elko, Nev., the people said no, and formed a "shovel brigade," and made a caravan from distant states, bringing people to help open the road.

When the feds decided to shut-off the water to the Klamath Basin farmers, the people said no, and formed a "bucket brigade," and made several caravans from distant states, bringing people to help carry buckets of water to the empty irrigation canals. People brought hay, food and, along the way, in city after city, people who could not joint the caravan, contributed money and goods to support the Klamath farmers.

When the feds decided to convert 50,000 acres of Ohio's prime farm land into a wildlife refuge, the people said no, and caravans traveled across the country to the proposed Darby Wildlife refuge, to stand in solidarity with local home owners and farmers against government intrusion.

Now, caravans are being planned in support of the "Sawgrass Rebellion." One group will originate in the northwest, near Klamath Basin. Another group will originate in the Midwest, and perhaps, another in the Northeast. These caravans will travel from city to city, en route to the Everglades. Participating organizations will schedule rallies in cities along the way, to explain to local residents how they too, are subject to the same kind of land grab that's happening in Florida.

Politicians, running for local, state and congressional offices, will be asked to declare their position at these public rallies. The caravans will be rolling during the height of the election season, and candidates who refuse to stand up and declare their position will do so at their own peril.

As the caravans converge at the Florida state line, and move from rally to rally, in city after city, not only the people of Florida, but the entire nation will know, that the citizens of this country will not allow the government to ignore the Fifth Amendment, while destroying the homes and shattering the dreams of thousands of people.

The Everglades are not likely to ever be the same after these caravans and the people they carry assemble in South Florida. The needs of people will have to be considered as the highest priority in every Everglades project, whether providing flood protection, or providing adequate water supplies. These needs will have to be met first, with as much care as possible for the affected wildlife.

The Wildlands Project says non-human species must take priority over the "needs and desires" of human populations. The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan must not be simply another name given to the implementation of the Wildlands Project.

The "Sawgrass Rebellion" intends to see that people come first in America.

I very much like the idea of making our representatives, and not just those at the national level, state their intentions about protecting private property ownership, which is the absolute basic of our rights.

Eventually, the matter of private property taxation, which reduces us to leasing paid-for homes we live in from the government.

I'm getting the Grange involved. As much work as we did on Klamath, I was disappointed at the amount of recognition and credit we got. One of the convoys will be coming out of Ohio and I have the Ohio State Grange working on that. I'm working on the west coast end. The executive committee for National knows about this and will be getting involved as well. We are looking into getting the convoy out of Ohio to go through W. Virginia.

D*mn.

I really wanted to be in Nashville today for the meeting with Henry, but wasn't able to go.

We must find a way to shake the people awake, before it is too late.

There is only one thing that the politicians truly understand, and that is POWER. Until the people of this country start to exercise their power, the statists are going to keep right on destroying every sacred principle contained in the bill of rights.
