Is doin' the 4473 really a bad thing?
my brain | 7/31/2002 | Jason

Posted on 07/30/2002 9:13:49 PM PDT by Jason, from Columbus Ohio

Although private sales have their place, I have questioned the whole deal of the 4473. Some say it puts you on "the list", others say it's not a big deal and it would be near impossible to organize and digitize millions of these little forms into a national database; and there are those who just say 'molone labe' and who cares. So the big question I have for you is: Is doing the 4473 thing once in a while really a bad thing for you?

Clarify this for me ......

this 4473 thing is something that happens on the planet Earth as well as your sphere, or, is it simply a product of your own planet from a galaxy far, far away?

Sounds like an infringement of the right to keep and bear arms.

Not as bad as illegal gun transactions.

However, if you think "it would be near impossible to organize and digitize millions of these little forms into a national database" just remember that Hitler eliminated 7 million Jews not with supercomputers and databases but with SS agents and pencils and little notepads.

Ping for your thoughts on 4473s and "virtual registration".

It has never bothered me. I started buying a lot after I was on the Oak Park [Illinois] Committee that was trying to stop the gun ban.
I took a certain delight that the government knew exactly what I had. I still do.
I have to admit that I hope I never find out what I would do if the government started going door to door.

It seems that they are nibbling at "going door to door" in Chicago, Philly and MD, culling through 50 years of misdemeanor records, examining expired or non-renewed permits with a microscope etc.

They're going after the "criminals" first. I wonder how long it will take them to start on the others.

Next, we will have to have "arsenals" registered. You know, more than 2 guns or 20 rounds of ammo.
