Missile Trail over L.A.?

There is right now an incredible and massive, corkscrew vapor trail sitting over Malibu. Vandenburg AFB is out in that direction, so it could be a missile test, but I've seen them before, and this is beyond bizarre. Yellow, orange, red, violet, blue, and white. Highly luminous.
Anyone know what this is?

And the perfect caption for that picture is...
"Just Did It."

I saw it here in Reno, NV. It was quite beautiful. It did make the hairs on my neck stand straight up, I knew it was a missle... my brother used to work on the MM missle out at F.E. Warren AFB, and we'd go down to Van to watch the test launches. It did seem to be a "beefy" launch, wonder what kind of missle it was...

Visible from here, 50 miles ESE of Sacramento at about 30deg above horizon. Well illuminated by last light of sunset.

According to
this page, it's a Minuteman III test. No mention of tennis shoes.

The Vandenberg site has a full slate of missle launches listed, some in September.

Theyr'e ever so watchful out there.....

Lots of cool stuff going on out at Kwaj. Two unarmed warheads would make nice targets for some kind of missle shoot down thing-a-ma-jiggy.

Saw the trail here in San Jose Ca. Went to the launch schedule site but it was down. Did a quick search for an article and couldn't find anything. Cool looking trail though.
